Any forum member spent time on both the 2 v and 4 v Griso?
« on: October 18, 2016, 08:46:54 PM »
Just curious.  I still own and ride my 1200 Sport 2v bike, and truly  like this bike.  I owned an 8vSE Griso which I rode for several thousand miles, so I have an good idea as to the differences between these two bikes.

Question is ........ did Moto Guzzi attempt to implement any performance mods into the 2 valve Griso engine to make it sportier than the 2 valve engine they installed in the 1100 Breva?  Or are the bikes practically identical in performance?

Another question
Which Griso will last the longest
A 2 valve with flat tappets
A 4 valve with roller tappets

Ive been thinking about this for a while, my 2 valve VII Sport has more than enough power for me.
Perhaps its time to upgrade to a later model.

If either one will last a quarter million miles, is there a meaningful difference?

Apart from induction/airbox and exhaust B11 and G11 power plants are identical. Driveline is similarly identical apart from the fact that the Breva has taller primaries than the Griso.

Pete's answer about the changes is comprehensive, I believe.

This question has come up before. Here's an old table I made of results from MCN tests of the two bikes which show the performance results of the modifications. The Griso had 4.5 more hp, more torque, and was quicker through all measured distances, though the top speed was the same (129 mph). The dyno tests were done by the same magazine, and on the same dyno as I understand it, though presumably four months apart. Only the exhaust and air box modifications would affect horsepower, and a difference of 4.5 hp seems perhaps a bit much to be real.

I've never ridden a Breva, so have no seat of the pants opinion of their relative performance.

Just a thought, but I had an 8V Griso and a V11 Scura in the garage at the same time.
I sold the Griso and kept the Scura.  Then did a resto on the Scura.

One more question re the Griso 1100.

Does this earlier CARC bike have any known problems that if not already addressed should be fixed?  I'm thinking of things like the oil pump issue on some earlier Norge 2v bikes.  Probably goes without saying that the swing arm bearing should be lubed.

Swing arm bearings and shock linkage bearings, same as your 1200. Later 1100 Grisos/Brevas a
So use the trochoidal oil pump that gave problems with the Norge but I've not heard of any of them having issues except that  small batch of early, red, Norges.
