Bent footpegs
« on: October 22, 2016, 06:18:23 PM »
My Ambo came with bent pegs and now that it's up and running they are starting to annoy me.
It's pretty basic for you restorers out there but I've never actually straightened a peg.
I'm almost sure it's simply a matter of heating up to cherry with the oxy with one end clamped in the vice , and using a pipe to manipulate it back to shape.
But I'm asking because I don't know if it wouldn't be better to just buy a new straight set? I don't want a peg to be weakened and just drop off while I'm out in the wilderness.
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Bend them back like you described.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.

Rider's pegs, right? I don't even heat them, just use a large mallet to whack them back into position while they're on the bike. I think Guzzi knew they'd get bent, so whatever they made them out of is malleable enough to bend without cracking, without heating.

I use a 3 foot piece of pipe slipped over the peg to bend them back. No heat. They bend back pretty easy.
