Happy Birthday Chuck.

I always thought that Rock 'n Roll was white people sounding like they were black...Elvis and Jerry lee.

But it was also black folks playing white country music. 

It seems to work both ways.  But i'll take Chuck any day.

I once read an interview with George Thorogood, one question asked, why no original songs?

His reply,that there was no sense in writing songs, as Chuck Berry had already written them all.

  Check Berry is likely the most important Rock and Roller still living.   Earliest Rock and Roll might be these songs...They are on U tube ,listen to them....first rock and roll record" include this list from the Internet... "The Fat Man" by Fats Domino (1949), Sister Rosetta Tharpe's "Strange Things Happening Everyday" (1944) Goree Carter's "Rock Awhile" (1949) Jimmy Preston's "Rock the Joint" (1949), which was later covered by Bill Haley & His Comets in 1952 "Rocket 88" by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats (Ike Turner and his band The Kings of Rhythm)

 Not really better, it was a development of the earlier music blending blues, Gospel and white folk music...Berry got noticed about the same time as white early rockabilly singers. And Check Berry was a black man playing to mostly white fans, quite an accomplishment in those days..The mid 1950's was an exciting time for Rock and Roll, Little Richard, Elvis and Jerry lee Lewis acting crazy on the stage..Good stuff..
