I think I'm going to try looping up north and coming down through the upper ml area and south over the Mackinac (sp?) Bridge.  As Chris points out I'm missing mi on my travel map.  So this needs to get done.  Then I'm thinking maybe swamp scooters and reassess where I am after that.

Having a great time here with Chris & co.  I grunted along on a clutch job and plan to help replumb the hack's efi fuel rail for an external pump as soon as we get back to the garage.  Today might be a tour of the motor company museum and a visit to the brake shop on account of my rear brake line got too close to something hot.

PS -- please stop with the voting crap.  This is not a political topic.  Thanks.

You should try to make it over to the Sleeping Bear Dunes area of the state (MI) on your way down. You will find plenty of boring straight roads down state so take the opportunity to enjoy some of the prettier areas while you can.

And holy cow, it's 72 degrees on November 1st in Ann Arbor! I'm taking the afternoon off and going for a (mountain bike) ride right now.

Pulled rear calipers apart, dressed pistions and sliders, reassembled and replaced the leaking rear brake line.  We're still trying to get the brakes to pump up (taking longer than I imagined).  Assuming success, I should be back on the road Wed.  Planning to try a dash toward  the mackinaw bridge via Oshkosh tomorrow, probably getting into or maybe past the Hiawatha Nat'l forest.  I'll cross the bridge thurs and make the sleeping bear area the endpoint.  Friday south into Indiana.

I do like aircraft. But I'm getting a late start due to rain.  I'll have to pass on that this time around.

I did the bungee cord trick on the brake lever overnight and have enough grab on the handle to road test them.  They can't be any, worse!

So I'll be moving in a couple hours (noonish).

Had a fine time with David. Stayed up to all hours of the night yakking about most everything. Spent a few days working on the 3 wheelers. Visited the HD Museum,  which really is worth seeing. I enjoy it even after dozens of times.
He rolled out of town about 2pm heading north in a light rain. Should make the UP before dark. He'll be crossing the Mackinac bridge tomorrow. Always a trip :bike-037:

Looking to see RK tomorrow per a PM. I forwarded my cell phone # and have lots of room for him & trike. Louise is ready with meals and beer! I'm located just off M-22 and 1 mile north of  Deadstream road on Park Edge Drive.
Now working on a 2002 V 11 for a friend, needs front fork seals and possibly a cam chain/new style tensioner in case RK gets bored!

Had a great time with Chris (ccoli) and did some stuff to the rear trike brakes.  They still suck worse than a rany night. Got through the upper MI Penn in a driving rain and 42f.  Was in the Hiawatha forest for the night with the intention of rolling in daylight (for sightseeing :) ), but got rained out in the campsite and rode through the night instead.  Nice visit with jkguzzi, and then down along the lake to Ihonk (Randy's) house.  Here now getting ready to ride around the area.

Only real drama was a truck blowing the stop and unloading his split firewood in front of me.  I'd noticed his approach to the intersection looked suspicious and was already slowing down in anticipation of a bonehead move, so I hit the bouncing firewood at about 25 instead of 60.  No real damage except one piece whacked my right wrist pretty good (bruised and ugly but not broken), and another piece bounced into my front brake lines.  So I limped into Randy's on virtually no brakes.  I got lucky -- the force of the hit loosened the banjo bolt without breaking the hose.  We cinched it back up, added fluid and it's right again.

Chuck -- PM was down for me and I couldn't get through to tell you I'm here with Randy and probably won't be moving again till tomorrow, so please don't wonder where I am.  I'll let you know when I'm back on the road.

Don't know just where you are, but I'm about 25 miles southeast of Pittsburgh and have a very nice garage, should you need it for any reason.

Just enjoying reading about your travels. The UP of Michigan is really fine, and my wife (who's from MI) and I have been there many times.

I wish I'd had the opportunity to do the upper penn in daylight.  If I had the chance to relive that part I'd have stopped in Oshkosh and toured the museum.  Then I would have gotten caught in the rain earlier along the route and popped out of the clouds, in the UP, as the sun rose.  As it was, I was approaching the Mackinaw bridge right at sunrise.  It was magical.  The fog lifted just a little, the rain throttled back, up ahead and to the right the clouds parted and there was the bridge, backdropped by a gobsmackingly glorious sunrise.  If I had known it was coming, I would have ridden all night in that same rain just to see it.  Unfortunately, there was no place to pull over, and by the time there was both a place and a view, the sunrise was over.

RK, your journey is evoking memories of my reading, Zen and the Art of Motorcycling, when I was in my teens.

Glad to hear your spidey senses are in fine shape, saving your ass with that load of firewood,,, I'm not a believer in trikes yet,,, but you were definitely riding the right bike for that encounter, lol.

With no set time table, other than keeping ahead of the snow front,(we got our 1st snowfall last week Ottawa,Ontario,Canada, melted and gone, but it will be back lol),,, I'm sure there'll be lots more magical moments, like your sunrise at the bridge,,, please share them all with us,,, appreciate it.

       Ride safe, take care

The firewood encounter would not have been survivable on two wheels.  The sticks were hopping like someone had shook out a gunnysack of jackrabbits.  I ran over at least one with each wheel.  Aside from the brake damage it creased a rear fender and broke the sight glass on the right side fuel tank.  We didn't discover the tank problem till I filled the tank and parked it in the closed garage.

Ran the M22 for about 30 miles yesterday and plan to finish it as I head south today.  I'll be taking off in a few minutes.

My PMs still not working.  88 pages of messages missing.   ??????

I had a nice visit with RK and we did get the minor brake damage repaired from the collision with the fire wood dropped from a pickup truck. Louise allowed us to use her car space in the garage for the trike, she always accommodating to Guzzi Riders. We then rode over to Interlochen to meet Steve Moore at Cycle-Moore to discuss the rear brake components. Steve had no solution, but the visit to his museum was worth the time. Next I led RK over to M-22 with the Norge for a tour back down to my home and another dinner prepared by Louise.
RK was back on the road Sat. morning aiming for Indiana an evening with Chuck.

Again it Louise & My pleasure to have him share our space. I just uploaded a photo of RK working on the damaged front brake banjo fitting in Louise's parking spot.

Rodekyll,

Sorry I missed your visit as I would have liked to meet you and witnessed your fine machine. I live a mere 10 miles from Randy but was in Canada all week for work. Randy and Louise are awesome folks and you have to appreciate Louise's affinity for fine dark beers. Glad you made it through the firewood mishap relatively unscathed, for most it would have had different consequences.
It's kinda cool to follow your progress via WG...looking forward to more of it. Be safe

I had a great time with Randy and louise.  She is a "map Nazi" as randy says, and planned my route to Chuck's house.  I took it easy, partly because I was gawking at america as I went along (america happens here, doncha know), and partly because my wrist is damaged by firewood and the throttle gets intolerable after an hour and I have to rest it.  So I got to Chuck's late.  Today we reviewed machinery and went to the guzzi lunch.  Tomorrow we'll do the auburn/chord/doozy museum.

Tues AM I think I'll head toward swamp scooters.  That sounds interesting.  Anyone with route ideas or would like to hook up for part of the ride (Dusty?), feel free to post about it.

I apologize for not responding to all pm's.  I'm using a phone to type.  Between the clunkyness of writing with it and the intermittent service, I'm trying to get essential messages out.  I'll try to catch up with the backlog.  In the meantime please know I'm not ignoring you.
