Old Motociclismo articles - updated with Guzzi 850 Content
«

I met a coworker who said he had some old Motociclismo mags with Guzzi content. He dug one up and said once I get thru this one he has more.
Would it be useful to anyone if I fully scanned the articles and posted on this forum? There might be some issues with the size of the files so I'll need help with managing that.
The style and tech info is fantastic.....they went so far as to test the linked brakes up until the rider falls!

I for one would really appreciate it!
That article would be pretty interesting to me, since I tend to swear by my linked brakes.
Can I help some how?

P.S. I don't know Italian, but can figure out the gist usually.

Fascinating!
This is the only in-depth, contemporary road test of the T3 that I know of -- and I've been looking for one off-and-on for about 15 years! Most magazines seem to have skipped it since it followed the 850-T so closely in time.
The three circular plots in the top half of your 5th sheet (reproduced above) are from the decelerometer that you can see strapped to the gas tank in the top left photo on the first page. The concentric rings mark the rate of deceleration in meters per second-squared, with markings of 3 through 9 m/sec^2. (For reference, 1 g is about 9.8 m/sec^2.) The angular displacements of the lines mark the passage of time, but I can't tell whether you read them clockwise or the other way. [It looks like the paper charts were rotating clockwise under the ink pen if I had to guess.] The left plot shows the very weak performance of the rear brake only ("frenata col solo freno posteriore"), the center one the simultaneous use of front and rear brakes with independent controls ("uso contemporaneo del freno anteriore e posteriore con comandi independenti"), and the right plot the integral braking system ("alla frenata integrale").
Judging from the plots the integral system was far superior when compared to the de-linked use of the front and rear brakes. EDIT: From the first page: "Using precision instruments we found a significant decrease in braking distance" ("mediante di strumenti precisione abbiamo riscontrato un'apprezzabile diminuzione degli spazi di frenatura"). I'd have to study the text of the article to understand what the actual test procedures were.
It would be great to have an English translation of this article! Any volunteers?
Thanks, Norm!

P.S. I was able to make a reasonably clear pdf from your posting, but don't know where to post an actual pdf file as you want to do.

If you have a good clean pdf you can use it to generate a rough translation. Here's how:
Open the pdf in Acrobat. Use Save As and choose a text format -- any one will do but I often use Rich Text.
Open the new .rtf document and copy a section of the text to your clipboard.
Open Google Translate. In this case, choose Italian on the left side of the screen and English on the right side.
Insert the clipboard text into the Italian side and click Translate.
Voila. You'll get a pretty rough English version but it's usually good enough to figure out the meaning quickly, if you already understand the technology under discussion.

Unfortunately the PDF is just an image, without coded text.

Those png images can't be copied from IMGBB. If you have them in pdf format I may be able to work a translation out of them. PM sent.

I printed each IMGBB page to PDF, cropped it, and assembled the pages into a single PDF document. It's not possible to select text in the resulting file because the PDF is only an image.
Use of either an Italian-capable OCR or dictation program could help. I'll send my PDF in hopes you can make something of it!

The linked system shows nice consistent deceleration throughout the test which is a major safety benefit over the independent braking. Also, the stopping time is improved.
I think from from the couple times there is zero acceleration in the independent braking test there must have been brakes locking up.
I had the linked system on my Call II ( first motorcycle for me) ...glad I did!
