OK. So my amazingly cheap 1400 barrel and piston kits have arrived. This means that as soon as I'm fit enough we can embark on the single spark 1400 project to slot into Mark's Griso.

This is a collaborative effort with me inserting little but money and assembly skills. The people who really deserve Kudos are Ron, who posts here occasionally as 'Waterbottle' and Mark who is going to have to map this behemoth!

Ron had the contacts who have enabled us to replace the ' Unreplaceable' front main bearing in the 8V crankcase. Mark will no doubt spend eons perfecting the mapping. All I'll be doing is making sure all the 'Weights and Measures' are right and flinging the great chunk of pus back together.

There are a host of unknowns in this project. It may be a complete disaster! But bugger it! Somebodys who have a scrap of a clue need to have a go.

I'll keep people appraised but I'm not giving out a lot of detail. Every time I do that some bastard steals my work and copies it and sells it as their own. I've been bitten too many times. Sorry.

questions:
- piston weight, make them same weight or rebalance the crank?
- Piston to head adaptation, needs work? Then what about compression.
- Engine house needs spindling bigger to adapt bigger sleefs, of just slides in?

All questions you also have when enlarging an old tonti.

I think not. Have you seen the thickness of the spigots on the 1200? A bore increase was obviously in the pipeline from day one. I may be wrong but I doubt it. Stud pattern is the same.

Just seems to bring up a Stelvio ad Paul? Can't see any mention of mods.

Yes the head castings are different but apart from the extra plug I don't know how different the combustion chambers are.

Next question is: Are we talking G11 here?

I have a G11 with close to 50,000 miles on it. The mileage could go up quickly with a little determination on my part.

A 1400 would skip all that 4 valve thing.

Mark a different one who also owns a Lemans with this Roper-plate thing in it

so that is a 1380 cc NTX, the conversion was done using guzzi cylinders and forged pistons

Verwendet wurden neue Original Moto Guzzi Zylinder | Schmiedekolben welche auf Originalgewicht gebracht wurden. An den Zylinderköpfen Kanäle und Ventilsitze optimiert mit neunen Schaftdichtungen ohne Verdichtungserhöhun g.

Quick translation:

- Original MG cylinders used, forged pistons that have been trimmed to the weight of the original 1200 pistons, porting and valve job done. Compression has been keep to same level as the 1200. ECU mapped to suit. Power upped to 118HP and 149NM.

I remember someone who corrected weight between pistons with a lighter piston pin. I suppose their size is given by strength needed. So not to much you can take there.

When I had my 949cc Tonti engine balanced, the shop took all the weight out of the pins instead of the pistons. They have a lot of experience balancing just about anything, and they said that was the best way.
