SP 1000 fairing VS windshield
« on: November 01, 2016, 08:18:04 PM »
Hi All,

I have a 1990 cali 3 and i am  considering to dress her up for winter riding , the options  i am considering are  SP1000 fairing or National cycle windshield

I have an Ambo with the National Cycle windshield but i have never ridden behind a 1000SP fairing.

Pros ? Cons ?

feedbacks highly appreciated.
thanks
Marco

the SP will fit (nail) the look on your bike..
for winter riding the bigger NC might be better..
The SP fairing is one of the BEST EVER .. designed in the wind tunnel.

Very pleased with the SP fairing that I put on my T-3. The screen is a Gustafson, which made it just about perfect.

It looks like the Cal III has a top triple clamp like this?:

If so, the threaded holes at the very top are where the round ends of the upper mounts of the SP fairing attach.

Upper left:

Upper right:

The bottom mount is a simple "L" shaped piece of steel, that attaches to the front of the lower triple tree and to the fairing body.

My only concern would be is the SP ('78-'84) has a shorter steering head than the Cal III and the SP fairing body may not fit as a result. Haven't tried it personally, so it might not be an issue.

The fairing would fit. Its the brackets. May need brackets from a SPII if they are different.

Charlie ,
yes the top triple is like the one in the pic , now i understand how the upper fairing mount.
Lower seems something i can fabricate.

I did not think about the cali 3 having a longer steering.... not sure now...

thanks

Same part numbers for the upper mounts of SP and SP II.

Some minor fabricating was required. Here are some pictures that may help.

I think I have a SP fairing in the parts achieve  that is structurally sound but cosmetically not the best. Could used a re-paint. If you want to try it out cover shipping and I'll send it to you. If you like it make a donation to a charity of your choice in the amount you think the fairing is worth. If you don't like it make the same offer to the next bloke.

If your interested PM me an email address where you'd like pictures sent and get a few set off.

Adding the lowers would give you more inclement weather coverage.  You'll get the same upper coverage with a NC Plexistar III windshield.  Easy to mount and take off.

Then why do you have a CX100 listed and not a SP?  BTW, I still have a`81 CX100  made into a SP somewhat.  :azn:

I sold it when I got the Norge. A buddy really wanted it. It was his first Guzzi, so it still lives in Anchorage.

I took the lowers off my CX so I could get the heat off the jugs in cold conditions for my legs whereas  got no heat off them with the lowers on.   I also found w/lowers on @120+ mph my CX would start to weave on a straight but did not w/o lowers.

The lowers on my '79 always "kneecapped" me unless I rode with my knees outside them or scooted back on the seat to where I wasn't comfortable.

I found the SP fairing too close to my hands compared to my Rifle Sport fairing.  :azn:
