(NGC)- Prices comps from 1947 and now on guns and ammo
« on: November 03, 2016, 08:00:27 PM »
I was recently given a 1947 Stoeger Arms catalog. Using an inflation calculator here are some price comparisons.

Winchester standard grade Mod. 70 rifle cost $106 in 1947 with inflation that would have been $1,148. Current price is $988.
Smith & Wessons ranges from $54.50 for the basic 38Spl.to $100 for a .357 Mag. with the goodies. With inflation that would be $590 to $1,082.00. About with current prices.
Std. Colt .45 gov. auto was $55.00, with inflation $545. Current new price $899. Much better deal then.

As you can see with the above It varies if the value was better then or now (not considering workmanship) depending upon the gun and/or company.

Ammo:
HV .22 LR was .57 per 100. Inflation calc puts that at $6.17. Can but currently for $7.99. Prices not all that much different.
38Spl SWC - $2.51 per 50. Calc to $27.17. Can buy currently for $12.00 or less. Much cheaper now.
.45 colt revolver loads - $3.18. Calc to $34.43. Current price is around $36-$39.  Bit cheaper then.
30-06 - $2.57. Calc to $26.74. Current prices are about in that range depending on loadings.
Unique reloading powder was $1.86 per pound. Calc to $20.14. Current prices around $30.00.
