 Roughly 19,000,000 people have served in the military , and under normal circumstances roughly .5% of the population is in active duty service . It always seems weird to me that during my service we only represented a very small percentage of the overall population . Seemed like everyone was playing in Uncle Sugar's sandbox . Anyway , yes , thanks from me also

My Dad, Lt USAF navigator 26 missions in a B17 (one forced landing after being shot up, not quite a crash but almost).. including lead navigator of the squadron crossing over to Europe.. 21 yo kid never out of Minnesota..

At 1100h, as every year, I stopped what I was doing, stood, and was completely still and silent for two minutes. In the Commonwealth, November 11th is recognized much more widely than it is elsewhere, and it is a tradition that will always be part of my life.

My thanks for their willingness, their commitment and their sacrifice.

My sorrow that so many have been called upon to give so much, so often.

My promise that I will do everything I can to help ensure that we ask this in future only when no other option can be found.

To all the Vets out there---

Incredible how we so often forget ...... being nearly 74 years old, I remember when 11/11 was Armistice Day, which signaled the end of WW1.  It's no less significant now than then.  But I wish the powers that be had celebrated 11/11/1918  as the day that signified the end of WW1, and come up with another national holiday to honor future war veterans. 

But, in any case, today honors all of our vets, God bless them all.

Steve, thanks for bringing this up. In 1630 my family came to what is now the U.S. and have been involved in every dust up since. Until recently that is. My grandfather served in WWI. He told me some crazy stories. My Dad served during Korea and Vietnam. I was fortunate in that I missed any actual conflict. I spent my time in service boring holes in the ocean and checking up on Ivan. It was very interesting and quite educational. I know that a lot of you are Vets. Most of the Vets that I know don't really talk up their service or what they did. Since this is Remembrance Day, Armistice Day, Veterans Day- Vets, for your service and dedication I salute you.

Yes, thank you!  It's called Remembrance Day in Canada, but the sentiment is the same.
