2003 Stone Loose Shift Linkage (oops!)

I rode the Stone for 65 miles today for a growler of beer. It;s been shifting very sloppy as of late. At the petrol station I investigated to find the shift linkage was very loose and almost off the transmission shift shaft (EEK!). I rode the turd home in 1st gear to begin repairs. The stock tool kit is useless, big suprise. I had to grind an inch off a 5 mm allen wrench to gain access to the linkage allen bolt frown emoticon:( It took me an hour to remount the shift linkage and secure it. The allen wrench now lives in the tanky bagg smile emoticon:) I need to pay more attention to the olde thing I guess. Good day all in all, peace.

Yep, that happened to my Cali Metal and a friend's Stone a decade or so ago.  Access is frustrating although I've since read that you can access the allen screw from above by removing the battery and the rubber mat.

I admit tightening the linkage wasn't on my list, until a friend asked me about adjusting the lever position.
I looked at mine, ...  and shift quality improved greatly after tightening everything.

Remember fi the shifter gets all wobbly on the shifter shaft, drop me a note. I still offer the brass upgrade shifter bushings.

the linkage on my Jackal (same as yours) fell apart on the way home from buying it!  I had to scavenge a nut from somewhere else to put it together and get it home.  I regularly check it ever since

Mine's all floppity at the other end of the business, where the heel-toe swivels round the footpeg bolt. Everything is tight -- just the gap is big, as tho it's sposed to have a shim washer in there.

The bushings from Lee would fix it.  Meanwhile, lube the linkage pivot points.
