Tall MG windshield for Norge
« on: November 17, 2016, 09:47:46 AM »
If anyone has one of these: taller windscreen with lip for Norge 1200, 2012
[Part Number: MG801N]  from MG Cycle, I'd like to know if the flip (lip) at the top of the windshield causes distortion and feedback on the level of turbulence and the overall function of the windshield.
TIA John

You might consider the California Scientific medium height screen. These two pictures are from my Norge with the screen in the lowest and highest position. The highest setting has me just having to look through it. I am 5'10".
It flows air very nicely at any setting. Been very happy and they are less than $150.

I have the Agostini version. It looks like the one MG Cycle sells. It works well at deflecting wind and cutting down on the turbulence (better than stock anyway). In the highest position, I can look through it without much distortion.

Still, you will get the least wind turbulence by removing the windscreen altogether (though you will encounter more wind on your body). Short of that, you may want to try one of the Cal Sci windscreens with a hole in it.

Me, I am first going to try cutting down one of my two stock windscreens to almost nothing. In my limited experience, not having any windscreen at all produces the LEAST turbulence, followed by a large windscreen that you have to look though. A medium-sized screen that you look over produces the MOST turbulence.

I get clean air behind my Cal Sci screen. I'm always looking over it.

I had recently ordered a dark smoke medium windscreen from TLM in the Netherlands, but it came very lightly smoked.

I haven't installed it even to compare to my "chopped down" Cal-Sci medium...which is better than the Cal-Sci Shorty or stock Medium.  If you want it, it's yours for what I paid for it and I'll donate 10% of the proceeds to WG.

I am with Jeff...getting to a super small is the best way to get to clean air, but it is nice on long trips to have the protection of the screen for bugs and rain...

After buying my 2012 Norge, I purchased a large Cal Sci screen. Did not like it from the get go, seemed very noisy (I am 6-0 190 lbs) and it seems to put a strain on the windshield motor. I then replaced it with a large screen for MG Cycle. Works much better for me, quiet with good protection and the motor seems to move it with ease at speed.

I now use the stock screen for the warmer months, March thru October, the the larger one for winter.

The fall has been so mild, still riding with the stock.

I have this windscreen on my 2012 -- It's essentially a larger version of the stock screen.  I like it and it works well for me.  I would recommend it.

I never look through the screen I always look over it.  In fact, it works best for me in the lowest position, I'm 5'11".  If you try to look through it the light rays will definitely be distorted as they pass through the recurved top lip.
