Suspension question for V7
« on: November 22, 2016, 09:11:28 PM »
Will the shocks from a 2013 Racer work on a 2015 special. Looking at the suspension on the bikes side by side it is not that clear.

I had the stock rear shocks on my '15 V7 Stone replaced with the Racer rear shocks. I also had the front suspension redone with racetech components. both ends set up for my weight  and riding style.

6.5 k miles and very happy with the results, multiple trips to VT one to NH and riding all over CT.  Hamlin Cycles did a hell of a job on the set up.

Gerry

Thanks. I have both bikes available to me right now and will swap them out this week and see how that goes. The racer (which was recently in a low speed slide) is likely going to be traded in soon for something else, so I am swapping out some parts prior to that transaction since they are only offering 2K for the bike anyway.

Gerry - does your '15 have the Kaifa fork?  I'm hoping to do my v7ii soon with Racetech springs and gold valve kit

It has the stock fork for a V7 Stone.

V7 Stones of that era could be fitted at the factory with either Kaifa or Marzocchi forks.  The parts for them, as well as the after market "improvement" kits, are not interchangeable.  On the inside-facing surface of the fork tubes, just where you can't see them because of the tire wall, there will be an embossed K or M.  Best to check with the tire out of the way, or some creative folks press on a piece of chewing gum or silly putty, then read the reverse image on the putty.  (Like the bad guy's palm in Raiders of the Lost Ark).

Yup.  I knew that and was hoping he would know which one he has.  I've done Racetech kits in my Ducatis with noticable improvements.  My V7ii has by far the worst stock suspension of almost anything i've purchased new, but that was no surprise - I knew that going in.  It all depends on what you are looking for, and what you were riding before.
