Guy Martin in Invercargill!
« on: November 23, 2016, 05:58:28 AM »
He is down here for the Burt Munro Challenge this weekend and while he's here he is opening the new Motorcycle collection that has been installed in the town. Looks like it will be a wet weekend for the Challenge.

Nice!

Have you seen any of his recent TV shows? Not sure if you get them in NZ?

I love his laid back style and it seems popular with non bikers as well.

His latest show "Our Guy in China" is delightful.

And they say I have an accent. Could use subtitles.

"I know it sounds bad but it is great. It would be dead easy to come over here and race a modern BMW S1000.

"But if I was doing that I would have no interest in coming over. Those bikes are fantastic motorbikes but they are boring."

Exactly!

We get some of his shows here in Oz, seems a good sort of
bloke and a thorough going mad bugger on anything that'll
move - good viewing.

Next time I am down your way John I think that museum is on the "to do" list.

A guy I know who lives in Moutere used to work for Tom Sturgess fixing the bikes as he bought them. Still fixes bikes but not for the museum.

For sure Muzz. (and when might that be?)
The truck museum should be on the list too if you haven't done that yet.

Guy is one of my heroes , but listening to him narrate his record lap at the IOM from a few years ago always confuses me . Did he just say "I am taking it easy through this section" or " this would be easier after a C section"

I like Guy Martin, but the persona he projects for his TV program's such the Boat that Guy Built etc, is somewhat removed from how he is if you meet him. I think Closer to the Edge movie gives a better indication of what he's like i.e: prefers to disappear of to the back end of the island in his van and sleep in the back of that away from the pressure of the fans.

Went looking for him at the Southern 100 a couple of years ago, my then 13 year old son was keen on an autograph, walked the pit area which was open to the public and no sign of Guy or his TAS BMW team, both the Dunlop boys and other names around happy to chat and interact with the fans. Guy and his team had setup behind someones house about half a mile away, and would rock up into the parc ferme just before the formation lap. He wasn't happy when people found out where he was.
