Support for Wayne and Vicky
« on: December 01, 2016, 08:50:02 AM »
As you have probably read in another thread Wayne and Vicky Orwig were involved in a incident last weekend.  While Wayne has some healing to do Vicky's situation is much more serious and could result in a very long stay in the Gainesville, GA hospital.  Bill Hagan, Steve Nicholas, and I were discussing what we could do to help Wayne once he's released since Gainesville is about an hour from his house and he is in no shape to commute.  It quickly occurred to us, however, that this weekend is just the beginning of what will be a long and very expensive process and that whatever we do is not going to be enough.

Wayne has asked for our thoughts and prayers and to please keep Vicky on top of the list.  Amen.  For anyone who wants to provide some financial support Bill, Steve and I wanted to establish a means to do that as well.  Below is a link to a Paypal account that I opened specifically for the benefit of Wayne and Vicky.  Although it has my name on it once Wayne is able to fill out some paperwork he will be able to use whatever comes in as he needs to help him deal with this situation.  We didn't ask for Wayne's permission so much as we just told him that this was going to happen, and I am sure he will be appreciative of any support his Guzzi family can provide.  Right now, however, he has other concerns.

Thanks,

Bill, Steve and George

I am donating, but have you considered a GoFundme account?    https://www.gofundme.com/

Might be more effective is this day and age...

Hi Mark.  Yes we looked at gofundme as well as youcaring and those are good options especially in the social media world (i.e. Facebook).  The three of us decided to just post this here at Wildguzzi (thanks Luap) for right now, and since most of us Guzzi types have had to live with Paypal to get stuff for our bikes it just seemed like at least a good start.

And as Luap says there's no fee on a debit transaction and the credit card fee is paid for by the friend and not Wayne.  Also the bank account we opened is at Ally which was free to open and no fees there either.

So while our approach may not be elegant it certainly was simple and cheap.

George is generous with names of his coconspirators, as if Steve or I really did anything.

The truth is that George did all the heavy lifting.

Thanks, George.

Oh, and yes, I just donated.

George, I don't know if it's still the case, but at one point a person could send funds via Paypal and designate them as a "gift" or to "repay", and the receiver would not be charged on their end; not actually charged, but Paypal keeps 3% of each transaction. Do you know if that's still in effect? You'd posted that "the credit card fee is paid for by the friend and not Wayne", are we saying the same thing?

And, would there be any objection to some of us also posting this info on our own Facebook pages? Wayne has his page too for that matter, but I don't know if he would want it there or not; that decision would need to be made by him, you and the others close to him at this point.

Hi Steve.  The Paypal.me page is designated as "friends and family" and not business.  There is no fee on either side of the transaction if you use Paypal funds or a transfer from your banking account.  If you use a credit card as the source it will add a 2.9% fee on the sender's side. One friend used an "e check" and I don't know what if any fee was on that (none on the receiving end).

As for links on Facebook and the like I've already seen it out there in a couple of places; we just started small with the marketing.

Thanks again.

No it's Steve, Yaniv, Guzzi Steve, and you next week that are doing the heavy lifting.  I just took a couple of hours of my employer's time to set up a channel for those of us who can't be there and want to help somehow.

The real magic is that of Wayne and Vicky anyway.  They are the ones that have touched so many lives around the country and around the world.  They've ridden hundreds of thousands of miles on their Guzzis and attended hundreds of rallies, meetings and events.  Wayne is the one who has crabbed my EV three times and Vicky the one that re-packed the needle bearings in my transmission.  What I've done here is really nothing.

For being "cheap" Guzzista, the group is "very" generous. I spammed another Guzzi list, too.

I went to see Wayne today in his new rehab room.We went to the gym for physical therapy where they had him working his arms. His sense of humor came through when he said he was doing his beer curls. He was worried about Vicky having not had an update on her condition today.I ran into Guzzi Steve in the parking lot who said the doctor believes Vicky hears what people in the room say and is responding to stimulation. This will be a long road for them and they can use all the help and support we can give them.
