I'm surprised they are not using Honda XL1000 Varadero. (Varadero is a beach in Cuba, probably couldn't afford them)

Probably?   They could barely afford bicycles ... the sorts of bikes we ride every day have been beyond their dreams of avarice for 50 years ....

I wish I could remember who I loaned a DVD about the 40's, 50's and 60's MG activity in Mandello del Lario.  It contained an interesting story about Guzzi selling literally hundreds of bikes to Castro's Cuba .... this was probably shortly after the US embargo began.  Guzzi shipped a load of bikes to Cuba, along with one of their technicians who set up the bikes and also trained local mechanics to work on them.  I recall, at the factory, his nickname was "Cuba."

A neat DVD.  It even interviewed one of the Guzzi workers who was Jewish, at a time when the Germans were making their presence known.  The Guzzi factory protected him from them.

Another worker during WW2 decided he didn't want to fight in the Italian army, and pointed to a very high mountain where he moved to avoid conscription.

All in all, an interesting video.

Now, if I can only find it!

I just saw on the news that the jeep towing the ashes broke down, and they had to push it to the final resting place.

Very fitting.

I am trying to understand how a reference to the quality of construction of a vehicle and the net worth of individuals is somehow deemed "Political". Would the same standards apply to comments about India and Royal Enfield? Russia and Ural? Surely we have read postings about quality and real life experiences of all manner of things, not just motorcycles.

One person can post an objection to another's posting being political which it was not, then have a Mod step in and delete said post? When the topic is by nature, a running commentary about a Guzzi, a country and a dead person?

Ya'll need to lighten up. I'm done. Sayonara

You did not see the posts that were political , and there was a fight developing . Sorry if you feel some how stepped on , but Mike and I are both busy right now , and don't have the time to sift through every post . Relax Red , like we said , there are members here dealing with real problems, and you have been too good a member for too long to leave now .

I enjoyed the post from the fellow that broke down on the airplane and landed in Northern Europe . Took me back to a time in my life when we were taught that Eastern Bloc people's were worthy enemies. I didn't understand them but I knew there must be Guzzis there. Fear and ignorance kept me away. "Millions of people, living as foes"- Ozzy Osborne, Crazy Train. I hope these statements are not political, if they are please delete if it seems so, I will not be offended . I consider it history.
