Fastest Production Guzzi?

I would think the MGS 01 would be fastest, it was sold to the public.

Anecdotally about 250kph on the main straight of the island on a ride day with a mug rider that is not very familiar with the track. A good run through turn 11/12 would have you hooking sixth about a 1/3 of the way down the main straight and piling on a solid bit of acceleration. Although if you got baulked (ride day you don't get to pick and choose) you'd be almost at the finish line. Can't remember what was the max rpm it got too in top I guessing a good 6 or 7000 rpm.

 From my experience in land speed racing on paved tracks, 100 HP at the rear wheel will push a stock naked frame bike close to 150 with the rider properly positioned..55  HP at the rear wheel on a smaller lowered naked frame bike will crowd 130 MPH... My 84 Cali cafe bike with a stock good running engine hit 117 mph in the standing start one mile... It may have gone 120 with a longer run...180 HP fairing equipped super bikes run 180 plus on the mile and a half standing start.. About 75 naked frame bikes have been timed at 200 plus MPH in the last 60 years, requires 220-250 HP..
 For some strange reason speeds officially timed on a track are slower than claims made on the street.............

The "Fastest" "production" Guzzis have all been spine frame bikes.  Newest being about 12 years old.

1997 Daytona RS - 150 mph
2002 V11 LeMans - 139 mph
2004 MGS-01 - 150+ mph.

Too bad a successor to that line does not live on...

I think the book says my 01 Sport is good for 120. 

Man, that LeMans fairing makes a hhhhuuuuuge difference.

Less weight and gearing? Not sure, but I think the Griso motor keeps up power higher in the RPM range. I would think the aerodynamics on the Norge would be better however. I have checked my Norge against a GPS at 100 and it was running 96. I have ran it up to 140 indicated with bags and trunk so I would think i hit at least 130.

That means a Norge is no faster than my VX800,  which has been top speed tested in a road test w/o body work @ 127 mph.   Never saw anywhere what it's hp rating is, but it pulls strongly from just off idle all the way to top speed.   Raced a 1200 Buell once and we were dead even on acceleration but we didn't go to top speed.

1 time I got in a race with a brand new Camaro that Road & track said would do 140 mph and my LM IV speedo was reading 139 mph, so I drafted him to match his speed.  Instead of a 130/80 rear tire I had a 130/90 rear tire then that was good for 200 rpm more.     I switched to a 130/90 on the LM so I could get a longer lasting tire.

On my VX I switched from a 150/70 rear tire to a 130/90 to get taller gearing, equivalent to another gear(500 rpm).  Doing this I had to get shorter shocks as then the seat was too tall for me.  But otherwise everything else worked just fine, except the sidestand was a little short.

No its most likely Mike, The island I've only been too once sadly, its a bit of an expedition.

The Centauro was clocked at 137mph by cycle world in a shootout between it, a buell, a M900 monster and the T509 speed triple.
Keep in mind that the tuning on these (and the RS) was crap off of the show room floor.

    Of all the Guzzi's I have owned and ridden ('78 850 Le Mans, '02 V11 Le Mans, '93 SP1000-III, '83 850 Le Mans-III), my '98 Centauro GT is the quickest and fastest by far.

My CX100 is the same way..........hit 5-5.5k and the cam kicks in and it feels like a turbo, but that bike I think is only good for 125 mph top.   My 750 Breva will do 105 mph top.

 you all better watch for family sedans...According to Chevrolet manufacturers info a mundane Malibu is governed at 130 MPH...

I looked on line for a road test that included top speed for the 1200 Sport with the 8 valve engine and couldn't find one.  I was only speculating early in this thread about that particular bike being one of the faster production Guzzis, and judging from how my 95hp 2 valve model ran, it seemed possible that the 1200 Sport with 8 valve engine might make it to 140-145 mph.  I would have thought the Sport would have been more slippery through the air than the Griso.

I didn't want to go faster than this...(took this pic a few years back...  ):

Wearing my jet helmet, my face straight in the wind, not bend behind my fly screen... 
My G12 had more as 1000 rpm left...
That top speed isn't important to me...
I like its acceleration much, much more...
Starting to lift its front wheel from about 40 Kmh till aprox 150 Kmh, not to much, not to high, but long...
