1000SP Ergonomics
« on: December 08, 2016, 04:30:42 PM »
I finally got my 1000SP going last summer and I am working on getting it a bit more sorted this winter.  One thing I absolutely have to change is the ergonomics on it.  The bars are okay, although sitting up a bit higher would help me.  The biggest issue is in the foot position.  I feel way too cramped and need to stretch my legs a bit.  Will the rear sets help with this?? is anyone running them for a bike set up to do miles??  Just for reference I am 5'10"  I am open to other ideas.

Thanks

Going the opposite way, I have floor boards with bottom frame rails and all the shift and brake linkage I would trade you for the SP equivalent. Combined with a bigger seat it might be good.

I have a CX100 that I believe has the same footpeg positions as your SP and I'm 5'10.5" also w/30" inseam legs.  Years ago I got a Corbin seat and had it raised 1" and some times put my legs on the rearset pegs.  If you put an Airhawk seat pad or something similar that would give you more leg room if you need it.

Same here.   I have a set of floor-boards and bottom frame rails that I took off my SP so I could put the stock footpegs back on.   Very comfortable for me, the stock footpegs are.

I suspect there are more than one set of footboard rails sitting on shelves around the country ... !

I believe there is a floorboard setup in the swap meet right now.

May not be an issue but you cannot use the SP fairing lower with the floorboard setup.

That may be a way to go, I hadn't really thought about going foot boards.  I would feel bad about a trade as my bike had been previously downed on the left and the shifter and rail are bent.  Probably not irreparably so, but they are not pristine.

If you have an oxy/acetylene torch you can maybe straighten the shifter.  BTDT.   Of course you have to know how to do it.

Yeah, sometimes the simplest solutions are best. I have already tried this one though. Wish it was that easy

Yeah. I have already massaged it useable with this method.  Sometimes you gotta get the blue wrench

try to find a set of le mans 2 /cx100 footrest hangers
they position the footrests a couple of inches further back.
my le mans 2 is pretty comfortable.
it would be a pity to loose the stock fairing lowers, they are amazingly effective keeping the wind away.
the sp seat forces you forward, having it repadded so you can sit further back might help.

Do the lower frame rails between the short frame Tonti (T3, Convert, SP, G5) and long frame Tonti (Cali 2, Lemans 3.. I think) interchange?

Simple answer, yes.
But, not the 1100 Ev Calis (from 95 on I believe) when the offset took place. These aren't a direct swap.

Yeah, forgot to mention, it only works if you have a stock type seat.  You could "dance" on footpegs.  Start out your ride in the normal position.  On longer rides especially on longer straights, you could shift your weight and use pillion pegs both or individually.  This will allow you to stretch out while on the bike.  The other thing is to stop and stand up taking your weight off the seat and allowing yourself to stretch.  Taking some aspirin helps too.

I have a Tonti framed bike with rearsets and they are a lot higher.

what you can do is look for some lowering pegs -

There are a number of places that make universal pegs - you will need to adjust your shifter and brake to make it work.

or you can make something to lower your stock pegs. See the metal block in this pic
