That was fun! The first thing I did after watching that was to dig out all my lottery tickets and checked the numbers. Unfortunately I'll need some new lottery tickets and I'm not sure which one of those machines ill buy first.

The bike pulled away at 110 MPH and held the lead until the RPM limiter came on at 192 MPH....I suspect the bike would have gained a lead earlier if the rider wasn't fighting to keep the front wheel on ground..There might be a few multi cylinder bikes that are a bit faster but all that speed from a proper two cylinder machine is impressive...

Not really, comparing the Ducati power to weight versus the McLaren they are about the same so you could say 220hp of the Ducati is insane.

Curious what the 1/4er mile times they run? Rough, there is a guy in town that had a "street legal" Harley drag bike (blown, nitrous) that ran in the '8s at Leicester (local drag strip). He has the video on his cell phone to prove it. No doubt he would never get to 200 MPH but it would be fun to watch. I have seen him take built 1000 GXERs with his Street Glide, aka daily ride.

I think the Veyron is capable of 10 second flat 1/4 mile times , most other supercars run high 10's . Fact is , most countries don't use 1/4 figures as a reference , that is kind of an American thing . There have been performance test done with pro drag racers where bikes have dipped into the
9's , but I'll bet that most folks don't possess the talent to do that . Cars with paddle shifters , traction control, etc , are probably easier for the average guy to deal with . Plus , even the fastest street cars ain't gonna wheelie

Pete, what I find on the internet is the Superlegga Ducati turns 9.8 at 148 MPH in the 1/4 mile. The two hyper cars the same but have higher top speeds. With pro riders, there's about 15 new bikes capable of high 9's ,most are less that $25,000. These all are street legal meeting emissions and safety standards...
Keeping the front end down during full throttle at less than 100 MPH on short wheelbase hyper sport bikes is not an easy task...
For less than 15 grand there's about 20 newer bikes capable of 10 second 1/4 mile time... And some of these can be bought used for a lot less money....Insane power out there..............

I was just thinking of the satisfaction of beating a million dollar machine in real world conditions with one that might have cost 40 grand and built by yourself. Isn't that what drives hot rodders?

No 440 lbs and 220 HP are much more dramatic than 3300 lbs and 900 HP, so why would 900 HP in the McLaren be considered more insane ?

No idea , both seem completely ridiculous . Just wondering about the math involved saying both have about the same power to weight ratio ? I am just a dumb old carpenter , but ...

Yes, there are modified late model Vettes out there with turbo or mechanical supercharged engines faster than the factory supercharger Vette, low 10 second 1/4 mile... and they cost less than  40K if you can do the work yourself.. Or a late model Camaro or Mustang....And you still have modern conveniences and safety....Just have to fool the emissions testing in states that have it...
I think that for many owners of mega buck hyper cars or even some bikes, it's more about the thinking the image adds inches to their manliness than actually using the performance on public roads...

Some race.  But none beat 3 sec 0-60.  This stock Bandit1200s did -

The Duc held its own against those monsters (sic), pretty cool.

Yeah 2 lbs/ph versus 3.5 lbs/ hp

I used to drag race cars and bikes...Power to weight is not the only factor involved...Cars always tend to have faster acceleration at speeds in excess of 100 mph when absolute power becomes more important than weight...At 110 mph the Ducati actually walked away from the cars, that was impressive...

Dusty mentioned the Bugatti Veyron....Several tests show 9.7 or so 1/4 and 250 mph  top speed... a well known test driver reported the Bugatti acceleration distorted his vision at lower speeds and it just keeps on accelerating...

 These vehicles are insane !!!!

I like this vido from inside a ZR1 Corvette....No auto paddle shifter or multiple overhad cams...Just a supercharged push rod truck engine with a manual transmission and clutch pedal...

Launching my little 600cc sport bike is not an easy thing to do (no electronic aids). That is for me at least, and apparently a bunch of others based on you-tube videos. Real easy to get out of sorts when it hits the power band at 11,000 rpm and the sky tends to become your main focus.

Maybe it was longer than I thought, but I remember the mags all making a big deal about the ZX14R breaking the 10 sec 1/4 mile barrier for a production bike. Seemed like only a couple years ago at the most. Now there are a couple dozen?
The best part of riding a motorcycle is to tilt the horizon and to lift the front coming out of a corner and to drift the back end powering thru loose dirt and to catch a little air topping a hill and... yeah it's all good!

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

The drivers in the auto trans hyper speed  cars look like they are on a Sunday drive. ..How boring, lol......Vette and the Audi at least are manual trannys....... You can imagine riding the bike fighting fighting the wheel stand, legs gripping the machine, arms being stretched while shifting the gears , wind blast, and noise....the stuff men are made from............... ..
The dragster is really totally insane...
