So by premier you do mean 500/MotoGP only, right?

With 10 rides or more, the urge to google is strong-but I resist.

Roberts has to be up there.

Probably helped by the departure of Gilera and Moto Guzzi from GP racing in 1957, and by his own early departure from motorcycle racing to drive Formula 1.

Surtees may have departed early but he left his mark. He won 22 out of 26 races.

If only the the bike world evolved as quickly as the Formula One world back then, maybe a LOT of talented riders, mechanics, and team managers would have stayed on in the two-wheeled world...MotoGP has nothing to answer for, but racing automobiles have risen to the top of the 'natural progression' ladder for talented riders/drivers even though the caliber of racing is very comparable, IMHO...I prefer it, actually...

Not to mention about an equal percentage of 350 CC races and 3 titles .

There is brilliant interview with Surtees somewhere . In the 80's and 90's whenever Mercedes would trot out their priceless GP cars from the 30's and 40's for exhibitions at large events , the driver was always Surtees . Often times he would drive/ride several vehicles in one day . A journalist from that era stated that all of the other car and bike racers from history were simply parading at events like the one at Assen Park, Surtees was riding/driving in anger . His off track persona is that of a classic self deprecating English gentleman , on the track he was a ferocious competitor .

Guzzi/Surtees content-he was and is a big fan of the 350 Guzzi GP bike against which he was riding a 350 MV 4 cylinder. He thinks the Guzzi was a much better bike, and I believe he now owns one.

His collection is amazing , so it would not surprise me . He has a real Kompressor twin BMW that I've seen some video of him riding , He was not hanging about .
