FYI ... Royal Enfield twin motorcycle being road tested .... http://www.financialexpress.com/auto/bike-news/royal-enfield-continental-gt-750cc-to-be-launched-in-april-2017/496162/

Hmmm... looks like an early Honda CB engine profile.

OK .... looks like real vacuum carbs, not like those phony EFI ones.

Something don't look right.

Those cylinder heads look too small for a engine with 750 cc displacement.

The bike in the photo looks like a test mule....I would suppose any new bike sold legally in this country would need to meet emissions standards...Carbs with open K&N filters might not do the job....40-50 HP at the crank? That's what the 1930's design  Brit push rod engines made 45 years ago....Hopefully it vibrates less

It depends a lot on the price point. This is the same outfit that bought the BSA name. Projected prices are similar to Norton's. If this is the case it will pretty much rule out first timers.

Looks like a larger version of their anemic 535cc Continental GT...

IMHO, it needs to look and perform like THIS classic...the 750 Interceptor from the late 60's-early 70's.

Interesting...never owned one myself...and I have heard just the opposite if they are restored / sorted properly...just like any British bike.

Always liked the looks of them.  Heard they were real vibrators.  :undecided:   This new RE 750 twin is supposed to have 45-50 hp, comparable to my 750 Breva.

Something similar using two top-ends of their newest single would have made more sense than a clean sheet design. But maybe their market research told them buyers wanted a parallel twin, not a v-twin. <shrug>

Update on the new Royal Enfields. The scrambler in particular is not bad looking.

That wasn't really an article about the bike so much as the market.

Here's some data on the bike straight from the horses mouth:

What they need now is a race team, flat track may work to see if motor will hold up to stress.

I've never owned an original 750 Royal Enfield twin either,  even though they are beautiful bikes and rare enough to really make people sit up and look.

The reason is that I've never met anyone who was able to make one actually run on the highway far enough to get out and get back.    There are a few in our BritBike clubs, but no one loads them up and rides them to rallies like they do their BSA or Norton or Triumph or Matchlesses, or even the old and new RE singles.   :bike-037:

Most of the owners are pretty forthcoming about the design flaws, parts supply, and general reliability issues that cause all this ...

This is just my personal experience so far, even challenging the RE twin owners I know for counterexamples.   If anyone on this list has any better info (like an Interceptor on the highway or at a rally a few hours from home), I'll take it!

My 2003 RE Bullet 500. Sweet running bike, but will vibrate like crazy above 55 mph. At 65 you're not really holding on to the grips anymore. You're making a "O" with your hands that the grips pound around within the space. At 50 mph, it is smooth and comfortable. Took this pic at Willville a few years back.

I had a 1963 Royal Enfield 500 Sports Twin in 1967-8. Don't remember any negatives about it other than the clutch dragged all the time. Didn't leak like the "Royal Oilfield" stories warned. Only sold it to get a new Trident at the time.

Actually 650cc, not 750.  Looks good to me.  Kind of like my '57 Triumph Thunderbird with better brakes, ignition, fueling and lights.  Looking forward to a test ride.  If the feel & price are right my Stone just might get a stable mate.

a friend has a stage 2 interceptor, we did a camping holiday,  toured the uk and germany together ( at the time i had a norton commando, my girl friend a V7sport)
we did 4000 km in a couple of weeks , the norton was the only one that broke down.
the stage 2 interceptor has some lubrication issues (oil pressure drops at high revs, solvable) but is a pretty sound design. especially compared to the norton.

not sure about the parts availability.
with these old bikes the problem is finding somebody who knows how to build a engine,
the same friend builds ( iron barrel) enfield bullet engines that easily last over 60.000 miles without any problems, a trick the factory never mastered.
