Transmission Mount for V11 "Red Frames"
« on: March 28, 2017, 11:03:10 AM »
Recently my Greenie V11 Sport was put in the shop due a cracked transmission case.  The shop is working on it and I hope it's not terminal.

If you haven't been keeping up with this on the LeMans forum, you might not be aware that Guzzi actually offered a bracket to reinforce the transmission mount on the bellhousing.  As best we can tell, these bracket are no longer available.

In the course of repairing my bike, the shop is having a run of 4 water jetted from aluminum stock.  (Basically, I am getting one for the price of 5.)  So if you are interested to get a bracket for your Red Frame, here's the chance:

Don at

Motiv Cycle Works, 906 N. Ann Arbor Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73127    8301 N Classen, Oklahoma City, OK 73114

should have the brackets made from water jet very soon.  He should have an opportunity to ship them out in the next couple of weeks.  The price is $80+ 60  shipping.

Right now he expects to have 4 to sell (fyi- two members on the LeMans board have written me regarding purchase).  So if interested, it makes sense to call him now in case we need to make more.  This will not only provide a needed part on the redframe bikes (unavailable from Guzzi so far as we know), it will also help defer my out of pocket costs.

Call him at (405) 641-1801

just a bump.

The brackets came in last week.  Don should be able to ship them out late next week.   He's going to display a couple of his cafe customs at COTA this weekend at Moto GP and should have the opportunity to ship them after that.

I'd recommend getting one if you have a "red frame" V11 Sport to prevent cracking your transmission like I did.

Is that bracket ONLY applicable for the Greenies or does it also apply to other non red frame V11 models?

Later bikes appear to have a built in support.

it's for the red frame whether it's a green, black or silver bike.  As Dave said, the later bikes have an updated frame.

John, Don told me he is still filling orders.  As I've posted in other threads, he's in process of moving his shop and establishing a Guzzi-Aprilia-Vespa franchise so there might be some delay in filling orders.

Here's his website and updated address:

Don is in Italy, previewing the new Piaggio models.  I am guessing he should be back next week.  The new shop is not yet unpacked.  It appears to be an interim location.  So it might take a while for him to get back to you.

I don't think it's a given that the red frame gearboxes will crack, mine had done 85K when I sold it, no sign of a crack.

OK,  take your chances.

we've had documented failures on the V11 Lemans board and the company came out with the brace sometime after the bikes were sold.  And then modified the frame for later models.

I think I ride aggressively, and love to burn up the tires and accelerate hard.  My guess is that contributed to the stress on the transmission.  But when I ride, I enjoy punching the throttle.

OTOH, I would feel better about installing the brace rather than installing it after I had the transmission apart and the case fired in a powder coat oven for a week and then have the the cracked aluminum case welded.

Preventive maintenance vs preventative riding?  I can't say.  You can look at the post with the photos.
