Use a red Sharpie marker to write "BLINKERS" really big on a post it note, then stick it on your speedo or tach.

 The problem with hand signals is too many drivers have no idea what they mean anymore.    Most  can figure out left hand pointing left but right-hand turns forget about it.

If I did that, I'd be replacing the turn signal switch every few months.   I'd be punching it "off" 200 times per ride ... !!

Thank you guys for all your input.
All it takes is one driver that doesn't give a stale blinker a second thought and doesn't make sure I'm really turning.
Both happen too often.
Too many times I've wondered why that moron pulled out in front of me.
Too many times it's been because *this* moron has a stale blinker going.

I'll be going for the automatic cancelling system.

Another idea for a habit to teach yourself:
Leave your thumb on the turn signal switch until you turn it off.
I do this with the high/low beam switch when traveling on low traffic roads at night. When I go to low beam for oncoming traffic I leave my thumb on the switch so I can turn it back to high ASAP.

My BMW F800GS had self cancelling signals. I was told that they would flash for 20 seconds or 200 meters, whichever came last. Because I'm that kind of a rider, I usually turn my blinder on early. As a result, often the blinker would turn off before I got to the intersection. One of the reasons I'm glad that bike is gone.

I'd be happy with 20 seconds, my Ducati goes 1/3rd of a mile, but only under 50kph (30mph), any faster won't cancel, so never actually does, mad.
For OP, have a mate with T3 who fitted bleepers, works brilliantly but when I borrowed his bike once a blind man walked in front of me at lights just as they turned green !, auto cancel definitely better IMHO (but I use hand signals)

For those advocating simply remembering, yeah I get it. We will still forget time to time. There is a rural intersection near me in a tiny nothing town. You stop, turn left, and stop immediately at a traffic light. I have, on too many occasions, left my blinker on here, and I pay particular attention here for that reason.

It only takes once, and even the best of us have forgotten. If someone told me they have never, ever forgotten, I would believe they are fibbing.

If an inexpensive plug and play option is available, why not!

I think the best bet is to work on developing a good habit. Technology should be the back-up, not the replacement for the good habit. If you are scanning your speedo and tach occasionally, maybe you need to think differently. Think about scanning your dash, not just those gauges. A brighter bulb for the turn indicators might help - I also like the temporary reminder (like a post-it) but a strip of blue painter's tape would stay on better. You could write "good signal habits" on it. Give yourself a cookie after you complete a long ride with no lingering blinker.

My 92 BMW K75s has self-cancelling signals. They go off after a certain distance. I don't like them. It's my commuter bike and I often need to change more than one lane on the freeway. At high speeds, the signal goes off too soon - sometimes before I can even make the first lane change. So I have to keep pressing the signal.
