Return of the Griso

I just spotted a 2017.  I thought they were done with making them due to ABS requirements?   I don't think it has it although the silver and black is a welcome return.

Old stock?

And with a price of $13,190 it'll continue getting Older and Older Stock.

There are some "2017" Grisos out there at dealers.

Like any dealer ad, the posted price is the manufacturer's list price - the actual selling price is (as always) subject to negotiation.

My understanding is that late builds for the USA get 2017 build dates.

I said that wrong.
I believe for North America that late builds for export got a 2017 VIN.
This is not available if I understood correct in Europe (the 2017 VIN) as CARC bikes will not conform to EURO 4 specs.

All I know is that MI has a screaming deal on a Stelvio with bags and on an off road tires and wheels. I just have to find a way to justify it to my wife.

That's what the spec sheet says for the 2016 model. Here: first section 2nd paragraph http://www.motoguzzi.com/us_EN/moto/standard/Griso/griso-1200-8v-Se/

In stock trim every 1200-8V I've had on a dyno makes 96 at the rear wheel. Griso, Stelvio, Norge, Sport all 96. With an AM slip on with dB killer and mapped right you'll get a few more say 100-103. Remove the dB killer and map and you'll get a couple more but gut the bottom end and midrange.

I prefer bottom end and midrange so I go for the second option.

I wonder how my Mille would look with two of those marvelous mufflers on it.

Dunno about the looks, but it'd be bloody heavy! Those mufflers weigh around 19 pounds each.

Mille makes about 50 at the rear wheel down a deep mine shaft with a following wind! You really don't want to add weight!

And before the indignation starts I still own a half share in a Mille in the UK. They're a great bike!

I've been watching the last new CARC bikes slowly vanish from the internet platform that  dealers (and private individuals) use here in Germany. www.mobile.de if you want to browse. The prices have been very stable and if anything have gone up. There is currently one NTX left. It's listed at €16,399 and it will probably sell close to that.
There are two Grisos left.

The deals you guys get in the US are usually much better than here.

so.....are these 110 HP monsters being phased out or will they be renewed and upgraded or replaced with newer bikes when this inventory is sold off?

My uneducated impression is that all emphasis will be on big cruisers and the V7 and V9 series that appeal to the general riding public.

perhaps,  it's hard to tell.  They are still marketing these bikes.

Nope, the CARC bikes are dead. As far as all current information goes it all points to Guzzi being pushed into an engineering and stylistic backwater where Piaggio have labeled them as 'Retro' and 'Cruiser'.

If I'm not mistaken the early Griso's had a hotter cam and tuning then the subsequent Stelvios.  That's proably where the crankshaft rating came from.  I'd say mine is very close to that in rwhp now and I've seen dyno sheets in the 113 range.  Almost every manufacturer adds a 10% hp rating and -10% weight.  It's the ridability of this model that I love!

This is a common mistake. It gained traction because the part number for the flat tappet camshafts used in the Grisos and some others changed. In fact this was nothing to do with a change in profile, it was simply that the actual shaft was machined differently to allow the use of shims to eradicate end float in an attempt to shut the bloody things up! The early bikes were very noisy!

Some flat tappet models, the Sport 1200 was one I believe, did have different cam profiles but generally the profiles didn't change over time.

All roller tappet cams are identical be they in a Griso, Stelvio, Cali14 or anything else.

Anyone getting 110HP at the rear wheel is using a dyno that has horses with very short legs.

Eh, who did the tuning?  Some guy with blue hair at a rally with a laptop.   Ok it's only 109 hp.  I paid with good beer.
