12/1983 SP 1000 Electrical

A new to me, SP circuit board dash bike.  The electrics went dark and I was left with the motor operational that got me home.  After unfastening the fairing I gently removed miles of previous owner installed heated electric grip/clothing gear.   This toggle though appears to be added separately and is inline some of the wiring in the center harness between the two outboard grip harness plugins.  Anyone have any idea what the PO had in mind, I assume its not factory...

My '87 SP II has a toggle switch in about the same location and operates the hazard lights/flashers. Came from the factory that way but I'm not sure if earlier SPs had a similar setup.

Thanks for that info, on the one hand it looked like it was integral, on the other it looked afterthought or owner improvised.  I think I perhaps triggered it with my tank bag strap & finished off the aged battery in the process.  It's causing me to go through the nest in the front replace wonky handlebar switches & spent steering dampner just a bit sooner than I had wanted/expected to tackle it.  By chance, I had an unconnected wire jutting from the left switch loom, is this perhaps the horn?  The previous owner had installed a aftermarket horn switch and with the new one I hoped to go back to standard set up.

Might scrounge around a bit as there could be a simple to read wiring diagram as well.

My 1983 SP has that switch ( yours appears to be missing the protective rubber boot). As on Denis' SP it is used to operate the 4 way flashers. On my bike it was wired live ( no key needed) till I moved the connector on the fuse box to a key-on spade). in the original configuration   it and the turn signals would work without the key(could kill the battery if left on )
