V7 Sport first gear now hard to get to

Greetings folks. Took the old guzzi out yesterday and have got a fresh problem. When warmed up, the trans won't get back down into first gear. Seems to get stuck in 2nd - pulling up the lever doesn't get me out of 2nd, to neutral or first. She's a 73 V7 sport with 7K miles (original) on the clock. She was opened up recently to change the main seal.

Should be a shift spring in an enclosure on trans rear cover, where the shaft (shifter) goes in. Easy to swap out.

Doesn't breakage of that spring cause NO shifting? The bike runs 2-5th gear fine, just can't get to neutral or 1st, until motor is switched off - then can get gearbox down to 1st, and it will run through the gears again. But then can't get below second again (until motor off).

Is the clutch dragging when warmed up? Ensure you have proper clutch freeplay. A dragging clutch can cause such shifting issues.

Not that no. The clutch is in perfect adjustment.
