This looks very interesting! Next generational control setup for motorcycles. I'd like to hear any views on it.

No thanks, my paper maintenance sheet, points & wiring work fine. Besides I have a simple phone, paper maps and all. Go ahead, I'll watch.

Total fakery, when he twists the throttle, there are canned revving sounds, but the bike doesn't rock.  Makes it hard to believe anything else about the commercial.

I can see the appeal for the younger riders retrofitting to older bikes.  More info control for stuff that you should know automatically however.

You'll notice that he doesn't wear glasses while on the bike and his choice of gear is.....well doesn't match the electronics upgrade.  Update the brain then the gear and finally the bike.

I see more problems updating the bike first and working it in reverse.  The ecu behind the handlebars needs updating first.

Snowflakes and younger Millennials are so dependent on their phones that if there is no app, they're lost.  Both seem to lack basic keyboard skills.  I let them know that if they can thumb it on their smart phone.....all they need to do is input with their index fingers by rotating their hands.  Baby Boomers that can't use a computer but have a smart phone get the same treatment.

i like the motogadget stuff - pricey but smart. having said that i do not have any interest in the blue unit. i simply don't want my bike tied to my phone. i am not a luddite by any stretch. i have a v.2 in the box waiting to go into my t3 overhaul. i just don't want my bike  linked to my phone. i don't want my television  linked to the internet  (where it can listen to my conversations - creepy) and i just want my toaster to make toast.

if you are interested in the blue revival cycles has a nice vid on it:

Oh dear...here goes...

I'm going M-Unit Blue for my V50 Monza rebuild.

Now I was sold on the M-Unit V.2 as the way to go because it gets rid of the ridiculous old individual units on the bike. All you need is an m-Connect on the handlebar switches, and wire the rear brake indicator straight to the mUnit, and then wire the various electrical consumers straight to the oputputs of the m-Unit. It's not just modern engineering, it's simply a better approach.

Now the Bluetooth stuff has only recently come out. I did not expect or particularly want it. I'm not even sure how well it will work if the mUnit is mounted on a metal base and has metal above it, as it might easily if it was placed under the tank. But, (a) there's no need to use it if you don't want to, and (b) you can use it to setup the mUnit much more easily than the old V2 unit. In that you had to short the Config input to ground and use a type of Morse code to program the unit. Using Bluetooth makes that much simpler. So, I can do things like -gasp- double-press the starter button to turn the bike off. Or make the indicators blink smoothly on-off with a waveform rather than just on-off. I can make the bike flash it's lights when it's pleased to see me. Have brake-light modulation of different types on different days.

Silly? Maybe. Fun? Deffo. Brilliantly simple wiring for a bike that has historically made electricians out of riders? Priceless.

Penderic asked for our views, so:  I have no interest in this because it would complicate my motorcycling experience unnecessarily.  There is no maintenance that my Guzzi or any of my other motorcycles need that need that has to be performed at such accurate intervals that I need something to tell me when it's time.  If someone needs this system to help him maintain his motorcycle, then he should spend his time learning more about his motorcycle, rather than how to install and use this system.

Well if I was re-building an older bike and needed a new fuse box, etc., then the existing M-Unit would seem a reasonable choice. Having the newer one tied to an app on a smart phone would seem to appeal to a certain demographic. Of course the possibilities for hacking the thing and stealing the bike should be red meat for the new generation bike thieves - but I am sure that is an unforeseen event by the makers of the gadget.

Those of you with the latest California already have access to all this. Check out http://www.motoguzzi.com/us_EN/moto/cruiser/California/California-1400-Touring-2017/. In addition to ride-by-wire, three engine modes, ABS and traction control it also has:

MG-MP (Moto Guzzi Multimedia Platform), available as optional equipment, is the innovative multimedia system which allows you to connect the bike to your smartphone and consequently to the web. With this application, downloadable free from App Store and Google Play, your smartphone (iPhone or Android) becomes an actual sophisticated on board multifunctional computer and the link between the vehicle and the Internet. The wireless connection allows you to simultaneously see important information about the vehicle on your smartphone screen so you will always have your trip parameters under control. The smartphone's touch screen allows you to view five parameters of your choice at a time, selected from a vast menu and including the speedometer, rev counter, instant power, instant torque, instant and average fuel consumption, average speed and battery voltage, longitudinal acceleration and extended trip computer.  The “Eco Ride” feature helps to limit fuel consumption and to maintain eco-compatible riding conduct, providing a brief assessment of the results obtained during the trip.

You can also store your trip data and review it later on your computer or directly on the app so you can analyse your route along with the vehicle performance parameters. When the fuel reserve light comes on MG-MP indicates the location of the closest petrol stations; the system also helps you easily find the vehicle when you are parked in an unfamiliar area, automatically saving the position where it was last switched off.

MG-MP includes the “Grip Warning” function which replicates the indications on traction control operation for maximum visibility and provides information in real time on your riding performance with relation to the road surface conditions. A dedicated indicator light warns in the event of excessive use of available grip. Thanks to the synergistic use of gyroscopes and the information coming from the vehicle, the smartphone becomes a sophisticated instrument to measure the lean angle in turns thanks to specifically developed algorithms developed. The limit thresholds can be set both for lean angle as well as vehicle and engine speed. When these limits are exceeded the relative indicator lights will come on or the virtual dashboard will flash.

Horrors!

The younger generation will be used to the hi tech app stuff and the get used to the even newer self driving traffic and next have to deal with Artificial Intelligence built into these modern things, but remember that the trouble with AI is ....

Now anyone can own a car and not even need a drivers licence to use it.

Just get a self driving car, (or bike), and hang on.

And the car can even guess where you want to go!
