V7II Stornello question
« on: July 29, 2017, 11:32:04 PM »
Looked at one closely at my local dealer today, and one thing I noticed is that the two Arrow exhaust pipes run right underneath the right cylinder.  I can visualize this being a problem especially with stop and go riding, with heat rising up off the pipes and heating up that cylinder esp. in relation to the left cylinder.  The cylinder sits right over the pipes! Since this model of V7II is a modification from factory design, I wonder if any thought was given to that?  Am I off base?  Any owner's care to comment?  Thanks.

I have a 16 Stornello w/7000 miles. Live in AZ and no problems with heat. Every time I ride this bike it moves closer to the top of my all time favorite list

Well OK Pete!   The darn things aren't even shielded at that juncture so it seems wonky to me but I defer to your expertise.

Thank you Warren.....that brings me to my other concern, that of the red frame.  Here in Florida, red fades to a nice dull pinkish or orangish color in the incessant rays of the sun.  I've had it happen to my Yamaha Big Wheels, my Chevy truck and my red helmet before.   Arizona is hot and sunny too, wonder if you will notice anything on the Stornello over time.

303 is your friend for the sun.  Or wax the frame?

I get what you are saying, but waxing a frame would be a lot of work.  However, that 303 might be just the ticket for using on the red tank of the V7II Special I've had my eye on, and much easier and quicker to apply on a fuel tank than a frame.  Thanks for the tip.

In Florida heat is a concern for me. I sold a few bikes that  were simple too hot for me down here in the  upper 90's and high humidity. Most notable was my Buell Uly. a '93 K1100RS, and the Triumph  Scramble with  a high Arrow 2:1. In other parts of the world these would be fine, but not here.
I believe comfort is a safety factor and when you roasting your peanuts it's difficult to stay focused on other things.

I to had considered  a Stornello. a beautiful bike available at a nice price, but have opted for a V7 III Special to avoid the potential of a heat issue.

I live in the same area as you, about 2 miles from the dealer and none of my red bikes have faded, but then I don't leave them outside for too long or they are parked in the shade.

Please go and buy that Stornello, and if you need a ride to the dealer just let me know. The head mechanic dislikes MG's so try to negotiate NOT paying for dealer prep as you'd be better off prepping it yourself.
