Day of major customization
« on: August 25, 2017, 04:11:04 PM »
Installed a Virginia inspection sticker plate on the Bassa.  Personal gripe of mine, IMHO looks like dog crap mounted on the fork leg.  After September it will take some elbow grease to remove the old residue.

Is that some kind of a seal at the base of the fork leg ?

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

The whole bike was safety wired when I bought it.  I'll bet the PO wore a belt and suspenders daily......

The police are getting pretty slack about checking inspection dates or shutting down lick-and-stick inspection stations.

I have a feeling that Virginia (which used to have inspections required every 6 months!) is on the road that other states have taken, and just eliminating the inspection sticker requirement.   It's easy for the cop to see if things like lights and tires are working, without needing a sticker.

I hope they get rid of it ....

It's been a joke here for as long as I can remember, Lannis.  As my local inspector says, there is no way a shop can actually check all the things on the list for $14.  I drive in and don't continue out the far wall of the shop, so my brakes pass.  He does usually check the lights, horn, and wipers on my cars, but if I take a motorcycle there he doesn't even look at it, he just fills out the forms.  He told me that he figures if I rode it there, I probably made sure everything was working.

Maybe a track day thing, not old guy thing. The only reason to do such a thing.
