Anybody have a good summary of Norge Year-by-Year Changes?
« on: September 05, 2017, 12:50:36 PM »
While things certainly didn't change every year, does anyone have a good summary of Norge changes over its lifetime?

Assuming you looked at the specs things they don't tell you.
07- first batch got a few bad oil pumps, guessing they have all been fixed by now.
Soft suspension, it is a GT after all. At 175 with a passenger it was easy to bottom the center stand.
Lots of heat off the motor, some folks richened fueling which cooled the bike off to comfortable levels.
08-10, suspension stiffened .

Not sure of first year of the four valve heads, they added some heat deflecting body work and more ergonomic handlebars.
That's all I got, maybe others will add some that I missed.

In the US, the Norge showed up in 2007.  The 2006 was only available in Europe, IIRC.  As Matteo mentioned, there was a small number of 07s with bad oil pumps.  The 07 also suffered from warped rotors (Mine had those) and a soft spring on the rear shock.  The dipstick was a screw in affair that required the removal of the three lower fairings to check or add oil.

In 2008 the dipstick was changed to a push in style with a longer handle and loop on the end.  The left mid fairing got an ugly plug in it to give you a place to pull out the dipstick.  Still a PITA to add oil - especially during oil changes without taking off the lowers so you could get a funnel to the oil hole.  The rear spring was improved, but could still benefit from an aftermarket swap.  Colors Black and Champagne were added.  Somewhere along the line, Red and Champagne dropped out.

There was no 2010 Norge imported into the US.

2011 is the introduction of the 4-valve head, new plastic, better suspension, and a bunch of other changes.  There have been no substantial changes since 2011 other than color changes (adding the Brown in 2013(?).

From a practical stand point, the 2007-2009/2010 are identical mechanically the exception of the rear spring on the 2007.  The 2011 and beyond are mechanically identical - only difference is color choices.

Not quite true and missing an IMPORTANT change - like other early 8v Guzzis, Norge engines prior to mid 2012 had the flat tappet engine and suffered failures.

The exhaust can was changed from the  Breva style to a sportier aluminum job around 11/12.

You're correct - I keep forgetting about the flat tappet thing as almost all the failures I've seen talked about happen on the Griso or Stelvio.  My bad.
