Finally got first service complete for V9....wow!
« on: November 27, 2017, 10:02:34 AM »
As a Guzzi newbie, I have only ever ridden a Guzzi in "break-in" mode with 4k redline.  So, I've ridden it like a Harley, riding the low-end torque in short bursts and doing lots of shifting.  Still enjoyable!  I finally got my bike back to Sloan's this past Friday and got the initial service done.  All I can say is....WOW!  Its a totally different bike, being able to enjoy long blasts of sonorous in-gear acceleration.   My gas mileage will surely suffer, but 2nd and 3rd gears are just so much fun to rev out now.  I think I get it now.

It's nice to hear good things about service inspections instead of the normal pissed off consumer that can't tell the difference or it's worse. You got 6K mi to wear it in and even then it may not be loose yet till after 10K.

Did they need to adjust the valve lash or were they within spec when they checked?  What about the throttle bodies, were they in pretty good balance when they checked or did they need to balance them and reset the throttle position sensor?  Glad to hear you're putting the revs to it now !!  The V9 is a really well rounded motorcycle, not too small not too big, good for a runabout or put on some bags and tour.  Good choice !!!

Well, I'm gonna guess they DIDN'T try to balance the throttle BODY. [emoji848] [emoji6]

At the same time I'll guess one or two valves were a hair out.

Cruise at 4K rpm's or above and shift at 5K.  Your life will change.   :thumb:

Riding around at sub-4K is murder on a new motor. Hopefully it's bedded the rings OK. Now to make sure load it up hard with some high gear/midrange rpm full throttle pulls.
