The " Guzzi Godfather" has passed
« on: December 19, 2017, 12:02:33 AM »
I'm sorry to read in MGNOC that Barry McDaniel has passed at a young age of 70.  Barry is pictured on the left.  I always looked forward to seeing Barry at the rallys!!!  Godspeed to the Godfather!

Barry (and Susan too) attended the Wisconsin Rally several times that I remember and probably more before my time.
Barry summed it all up when I heard him say ' I am Guzzy to the core'. He certainly was and he'll be missed...

Barry and ago back 40+ years. He kept lots of guzzis running when he lived in Memphis and lateR IN mo. hIS  Porch was filled with Guzzi pictures and his well kept shop also had pics and brochures from the factory..

His wife, Susan, called me the day after he passed. She said they planned on having a memorial for him in June. I'll be there. To bad y'all didn't know the other side of Barry.

When the National was held in Sylvan Grove, KS Barry wearing a top hat and a coat with tails led the parade.

Icould go on and on if my fingers worked.

RIP Barry, I'll miss you

Met Barry at Lake Joy Wisconsin Rally a few years ago. Indeed, a real character.
Had a great conversation with him. Wished I had met him sooner, a great guy.

RIP Barry....

FWIW, he was the first person outside of the group I rode with to my first rally ever (Council Grove,KS - 1999) to say anything to me. After introductions, we visited a lot.  And over the years, I can say we became good friends.

I have so many funny stories about Barry and Susan. I'll save them for when I'm in your presence. Just ask.

But, one of the funniest that I want to share is one time we were at the Wisconsin rally.  My uncle Calvin used to roll his own cigarettes.  Barry seen him rolling one up and said "Hey uncle Calvin, roll me one while you're at it", to which, he did and handed it to him.

Next day rolls around...Uncle Calvin asks Barry "You want me to roll you up another one?".  Barry said...Nah, that one yesterday didn't do a damned thing for me! .  You had to be there I guess.

I always enjoyed visiting with Barry and Susan at rallies or wherever, and feel lucky to have ridden with them on several occasions.

It's been a rough year for losses. The worse year I can remember. I've lost a lot of family and friends, and I know many here have too.  Here's hoping 2018 will be a lot nicer to everyone.
