Very best MotoGP races between 1992 and 2017?
« on: December 28, 2017, 11:42:59 AM »
To spend the winter downtime well I thought I'd review every 'great' race in Dorna's archive.
I'm omnivorous and enjoy tiddlers racing almost as much as the elite level races.
What race would you watch a second time?

Some I know and will watch again. Others I never knew I should re-watch. These are all top level races.
Silverstone 79 will have to wait until I've exhausted the others and am willing to search a source for video.

Thanks for the list.

Wherever Casey Stoner was when he secured Ducati's first championship.
Aussies have the most natural raw ability.
Followed by the Irish, Italians, then the Poms, and all the rest of the rabble after that..
It's a slam dunk...
Forget abbaaarrt it !!!

 Well ... except for that era when Roberts , Spencer , Lawson , Schwantz , Rainey , Mamola , and Kocinski kind of won every 500 CC race , and more than a few 250 CC races  :evil:

 Nonsense . American dirt track produced a generation of incredible riders who taught the world how to ride the most evil 500 CC GP bikes ever raced .

Nah, conventional wisdom Dusty.
It's been so long since I've heard the "Star Spangled Banner" at a premier motorcycle event, I doubt if they'd have a copy, except for some scratchy old buckled 45 in the bottom of a cardboard box.
If everyone fell off and an American won the race, he'd have to have a card with the lyrics so as to sing along with the anthem !
No disrespect Dusty, but the Americans don't have the working class killer instinct of an Aussie with blood in the eye.
Too privileged in the main.

Robert= whinger, (sook, big girls blouse, grissler)
Spencer=bought the seat on the only good bike
Lawson=too "nice"
Schwartz=crashed when challenged
Rainey=possibly an exception on a good day
Mamola=clown, scared of Graeme Crosby (would go ok on a unicycle in a circus juggling chainsaws)
Kosinski=another Lance Armstrong

 No , the real issue is that Americans as a whole don't care about motorcycle road racing . As for a "working class killer instinct " , have you ever watched an American dirt track race on a mile track like the one at Springfield ? Wheel to wheel , bars touching , sideways at 110 MPH , 135 MPH drafting each other on the straights . All for about what a GP rider makes for running a few practice laps . Look , Doohan kind of began the era of Ozzie domination , and who was he riding for , mighty Honda . I've always admired him for coming back from a terrible injury , and Stoner was brilliant , even Rossi couldn't tame the Ducatis the way that Casey did . But don't be dissing those tough as nails Yanks , watching Schwantz dirt track his underpowered Suzuki into a corner , later on the brakes than everyone else because he had to be to keep up was amazing . Fact is , I'd rather watch those crazy Irish National series races at tracks like Cookstown than any other pavement stuff , those guys are crazy  :shocked: :laugh:

 Oh , watch Shayna Texter (yeah , a girl) split two male competitors using the draft on a dirt track at 100 MPH if you want to see blood in the eyes . If she ever decides to go road racing , the moto 3 boys better look out , she is 95 LBS of ferocious motorbike racer .

what, no links?

no links.... sorry. The archive of races is part of a pay-site; MotoGP.com
.... the folks who run that format of racing.

It's 140 Euro per year for full access to the season's races, a bunch of feature reports, and the archive of every race in all classes from 1992 forward. A few weeks back I played an entire race via on board cameras (Vinales). Turned off the commentary and just watched the race unfold. Tonight I watched that 1994 Japan race listed.
I think it offers a lot of entertainment for the buck.
