Let's see your National Park/Monument photos
« on: February 04, 2018, 04:32:41 PM »
There are 59 US National Parks and north of 400 National Monuments in the U.S. and territories, all incredible places to visit, ride thru, hike, camp or "connect on a road trip".

https://www.nationalparks.org/connect/blog/how-many-national-parks-are-there

Even though I've visited I believe 23 of them over the years, it's was only a recent trip in December to Saguaro National Park for a repeat visit that I picked up a National Park passport for our little boy and over the holidays started him out with 2 stamps - Saguaro and Mesa Verde.  Hopefully over the years we'll be able to collect most if not all of them on future adventures!

Let's see your best moto pic at the various entrances, and perhaps we can collect all 59 here on one thread!  Repeat parks more than welcome!

You'll have to trust me on this one, since there's no "Welcome to Yellowstone" signage.  We 'camped out' at the Yellowstone Park Inn, just west of Cody, and slightly east of Yellowstone National Park.  One hell of a great ride ...... on two 790cc Bonnevilles, in May of 2006.  Cleveland, Ohio to the lovely Western USA, then back home.  The Bonnevilles performed flawlessly!

Bob

And here's a legitimate photo or two, that actually shows the park signage.  Summer of 2011.

I was stationed out in 29 Palms a little over 30 years ago and really liked the area.  Would like to visit the Joshua Tree National Park again, just not in the summer!

The mountain ahead is Denali.

Fireweed in the park.

These are from Yellowstone.

I never really understood just how massive these guys are until I woke up with this one about ten feet outside my tent the next morning.

Old Faithful

The Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument

These are not graves, they are markers for where the soldiers who died in the last stand on the hill fell.  They are buried in the mass grave under the big marker.

There is also a national cemetery there.

I was a bit disappointed in Mt. Rushmore.  All the pictures you ever see show only the sculpture and make it look massive.  Well, it is, but it's only a small part of the mountain it's on, and the view from the visitor center is a good ways away.  This is what you actually see.

I don't know what I was expecting, but this one (telephoto lens) is typical of all I had ever seen before I got there.

By the way, Rushmore has a way to extract funds from those of us who use a National Park pass.  They charge for parking.
