Anybody see this "V7 Sport" that didn't sell?
« on: February 14, 2018, 07:27:52 AM »
https://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-Moto-Guzzi/152896779957?hash=item23995bb6b5:g:wGwAAOSw5nxaegF0&vxp=mtr

I was wondering, given the going prices for a correct, complete, running bike, what the break-even price might be for an incomplete job like this. Looks like people were probing, high bid seems a lot for a non-runner.

That's top dollar for a project, looks like everything will need work. The non stock triple clamps and high bars are 'unique'. Good base to make a nice bike, plan on $10K in parts, paint, machine work.

It looks like there is some good stuff there, but the weird top triple clamp, no headlight, wrong seat, rotten mufflers, etc etc are all going to cost quite a bit to get right. It also probably needs the cylinders replaced. It looks to be in a lot better shape than my v7 sport project was when I started, but I found that once you start digging, you find more and more stuff that needs to be replaced or corrected. I paid $500 for mine, and will probably have close to $8000 in it when I am done. Plus I already had a whole bunch of parts that I was able to use that were "free". My job is nowhere near as beautiful or as perfect as Canuck 750's work, and it still is going to be an expensive proposition. To start out paying $6000 or so plus all that it will take to make it right will be pricey. I wonder why those holes are drilled in the rims?

... I wonder why those holes are drilled in the rims?

My guess is that the holes were someone's solution to the problem of water collecting in the high-flange rims. Drain holes, if you like.
