The Outpost HD, Honda Bmw, in Fairbanks, Tires on Guzzi??
« on: February 15, 2018, 06:10:25 PM »
Do any of you know if this dealership will change tires on my Stelvio or is it one of those that refuses to work on Moto Guzzi like the last Harley Davidson shop I was at??  Have any of you used them in the past for your Guzzi??

I think a phone call on your part to the dealer would be appropriate.

Nevermind.  They just told us they will NOT do a tire change on a guzzi.

You do know that you can put the bike up on the centerstand, take out six easy-to-reach bolts, and the wheel falls off into your hands and you can hand it to the dealer?

Hard to imagine that they wouldn't change a tire on a bare wheel.   If they don't, they're just adding to the "Harley Urban Legend" ("We don't mess with that furrin crap").  I'm sure the Hondas and BMWs are quarantined ....

Yes I know how to remove the rear and front tire.

And they won't just put the wheel on their No-Mar machine and change the tire for you?

How do they know what kind of bike it came off of?

Just get someone to tear the old ones off and fit the new ones yourself.
I got stuck on a Sunday morning once so had a crack at fitting my Norge ones.
I just plastered the rim and bead with soapy water and after supporting the wheel on an old blanket, just pushed the tyre on with a heeled boot.
If you gently work around and make sure the bead on the opposite side goes into the well, it'll go on no worries.
I did not need to use levers.
Then just balance them yourself.
Honestly, it can be done.
Tell the poxy Harley joint to get rooted !!!

If you post your question on the Motorcycle Tourers' Forum on Delphi Forums, you'll get answers from people who live in Fairbanks and the Anchorage area who can tell you exactly which dealers or shops will be accommodating. In fact, one of the MTF members who lives in Wasilla offers tire changing services to members and will accept tire shipments on their behalf. The MTF has a long history of assisting riders in the wilds of Alaska and Canada. I am an MTF Gold Member.

Alaska Leather in Anchorage sells and installs tires. You need to order them ahead of time so they have them in stock.

Fortunately the Stelvio uses the same size tires as pre-wethead 1200 GS.

There are two dealers in Whitehorse who will change motorcycle tires.
Yukon Honda and Yukon Yamaha. I've always used the Honda shop with no regrets. Neither place is cheap.

Last year Honda jacked their price to either force locals to order tires through them at MSR and/or to keep the other two (no tire service) shops from making sales while re-directing the labour costs. "we'll have them mounted by tomorrow..."

If you buy from a Canadian online retailer you can have the tires shipped through Canada Post.
Ship them to me I'll hold them for you to pickup. I also have a modestly equipped shop if you need to do any self repairs.

For online shops:
FortNine has been the absolute quickest to deliver. Their product prices aren't bad. They advertise anything over $49 ships for free.

Just another option for you.
One may write one's destiny but the unknown delivers it.

Is this a particularly *American* thing? It sounds like the crap Jude and I went through in SLS when I'd phoned ahead to the Kawasaki shop and the parts droid said they'd be overjoyed to sell me tyres and fit them to the Cali 14 so I pre paid for the hoops so they would be in stock but when I arrived, on the allotted day at the allotted time I was told by the 'Workshop foreman' who was the epitome of a 'Shaved Ape' that they couldn't fit a yer to the Cali because it "Wasn't a normal motorbike!"

To add further insult when I went to see the parts Turd not only did he want to charge me a re-stocking fee but also suggested that perhaps, rather than tyre's, I would like to purchase something else from his little shop of horrors with my 'Credit'!

Whilst jumping the counter and giving him a 'Liverpool Kiss' was tempting I politely declined and then Jude and I had to ride on a damn near bald tyre all the way to Vegas where Tony, (ITSec.) was working at a then Guzzi dealer where they had a mechanic who wasn't frightened of the idea of replacing a tyre!

It's bloody bizarre! Almost as stupid as the bike shop in Sydney that is the largest Aprilia/Guzzi dealer in the state but they' Don't have anyone' who can rebuild a Guzzi motor! But TYRE'S FFS. It's like saying you don't know how to put petrol in the tank!

Ive been turned away by more than one of the bigger name dealerships/shops for maintenance, tires needed while on the road.  I wont even try them anymore.  The small independent shops get my business whenever possible.  And....maybe Il get my own tire changer some day!!!   :thumb:

Yep.
I'm actually fairly small guy, but I get your point.
Really, it's a big to do about nothing. Like I said, just make sure the bead has gone properly into the well on the other side and the bastard will almost "fall" on.
I still have mine fitted at the shop, but needs is as needs must...
