Good discussion on the link above...There are other who have a slight different opinion on how raising the port  floor increases engine response and overall power...Some say it increases air flow velocity and the air forms a cone around the opened valve increasing air flow...But they are all on the same page...
What I do know from actual experience on my land speed racing Triumph with a head design similar to Guzzi....Raised intake port floor without making the ports larger than stock,  moderate lift and duration  camshafts and running only 10.5 compression flatter top pistons with more quench that the competition's higher dome no quench pistons that limit combustion flame travel..I use a single spark plug...I learned this from Chevy V8 tuners....
On a Guzzi street engine I believe the dual plugs can be an advantage...mostly because the faster flame travel suppress detonation and you may be able to run lower octane fuel...
Question, are some of you lugging along at 2000 rpm like a Harley?

My Sport 1100 only sees 2,000 rpm when leaving a stop, or coming to a stop, and I only use premium fuel.  91/93 octane.

Well, my recollection is that you spend a good deal of time in the 2-3 K RPM range around town due to the close ratio box and interstellar space travel gearing; you never go beyond 2nd around town.

1st gear around town for me.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.

Depending on your local town speeds (60kph 38mph?? here) I do occasionally hook third mainly to mitigate the social implications of the full termi system. As soon as variation of that speed something that resembles an incline I drop to second 2500rpm, or there about from memory in third.

There is an advantage of letting the motor die off during tight cornering rather than going down to first mainly because first is much lower than second and it saves you two signal changes of the Victorian era signal box.

It might also be worth checking the condition of your fuel lines and seals, my bike will be eligible for classic rego next year if the fuel system starts sucking in air it can also cause odd running.

In normal running 5-6 will regular runs to 8, at highway speeds it doesn't really pull much below 5 and you really want to be above 6.

What is this stumble that I hear of? My 1100 is flat and off the cam below 2750rpm but pulls like mad above that. If you are careful with the throttle you can run it down to 2000rpm without any snatching. 50km speed zone 2nd gear and it carburates perfectly along give it a sniff of throttle and you are away. I have a video of this activity some where, I will try and find it and post it on YouTube.  Pod filters fitted. I have never had any pinking (detonation).
Cheers, voncrump.
