TENS Back Pain Relief Units??
« on: March 10, 2018, 01:49:59 PM »
I have issues with my back at times. One time at a back doctor, he used an electrical device that relieved the pain I had. It had two electrodes and he put one on my shoulder area and the other just below my belt line and it almost felt like I had a heating pad on.

I have been looking at units like this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/271332644539

Has anyone used this one or one like it? How well did the brand/model you have work?

Thanks for the help!

I've used them.  They work.  I don't know about that particular model or what to look for though.  Mine were always loans from physical therapy units.  Perhaps one of those places could better recommend something -- or at least tell you what specs you want.

Thanks guys. I was looking at the one Twowings listed. Now I know that it's not just junk medicine and could help.

Unless someone comes up with a better one, I'll give the Amazon one a shot.

Thanks again!

Pro Tip: before turning unit on, make sure intensity dials are set to '0'...increase slowly until the sensation is at your level of comfort...starting out at a higher level could be somewhat of a surprise...

I read the revues and instructions mentioning that you should turn it on in low, then bring it up to your comfort level. About 3 out of 8 was mentioned for this unit.

I also plan to order a gel that was recommended for the pads. Supposed to make the pads last and stick longer.

I'll most likely order this tomorrow evening. I hope it works nearly as well as the back docs did. I had a recurring lower back pain that would drop me to my knees if I turned or leaned the wrong way or tried to brush my hair unless I did it carefully. I have a different pain like a pulled a muscle right now, hope this might help it and the original pain when it comes back.

Thanks again!

Well, the price is right, and the dialogue here seemed to be pretty positive, so I ordered the one off Amazon as well. I have been going to the Chiro for several weeks now, to no advantage except a lighter rear pocket. My lower back is excruciating and getting worse it seems. I dropped my Quota in the bush 3 years ago and cracked the L3 vertabrae when I tried to lift it back up. The docs misdiagnosed the fracture, so it never got fixed, and now the muscles all around it are really painful. I hope this TENS works for it.

I used to work for a durable medical equipment company. We dispensed hundreds of tens units each year. They must be effective if insurance companies pay for them. And yes, start out on a low setting if you don’t want to piss yourself

You probably already have purchased one, but for what it's worth I picked up an Omron brand unit from Walmart. I recommend if you can get a unit with reusable pads, this Omron claims that it can be reapplied 150 times before the pads needs replacing.

i have used TENS units for over 30 years, most are similar, some have more adjustments than others. Search the internet and you can get specific back pads to plug in.  Some are just larger size pads, but also there a a couple that are about 3" x 10" that don't come unplugged around the waistline as easy. When one does come unplugged you will know it!

I think I will get the one listed above from Amazon.

One other question that I don't seem to find the answer for:

If you have the pads on your back, can you lay down in a bed on your back or sit in a chair? When the back doc did my back, I was laying on my stomach. Do you need to keep, ummm, off the pads or can you lay on them? If you can, how long, I'm thinking let's say 20 minutes?

Thanks all again!!!
