Does Guzzi need a small bike?
« on: March 14, 2018, 09:34:54 AM »
The under 400cc category seems to be the new growth market for bikes, low cost, simple, bikes, maybe it's time for the new Falcone? Though to make a profit it would may have to be made some place like India or Thailand. Just a thought after reading about the new BMW GS310.

I would buy a really new Falcone.. or it's little brother. I couldn't care less about another cruiser.

Not trying to be a troll but Moto Guzzi's 750 is pretty close to the size and horse power of the Kawasaki 400 Ninja.

a 750 passes for a mid-sized bike these days but for a non-rider, it's still a big, expensive, heavy machine.  Not to reprise the moped thread here but most of us likely came into this originally on tiddlers in the 50-300cc range.  At that displacement, price, weight, and power are more manageable which likely makes entry for the non-rider more accessible.  Net, net, yes, Guzzi would to well to have a little bike as they have had in the past.   Hell, I might even buy one as little little bikes can be a hellofa lot of fun.

Dorcia won't ride a motorcycle, but she'll come back grinning from ear to ear on a small scooter..

JFCHARRUA (from Uruguay ) posted a few pictures of a Royal Enfield his father has. Beautiful, simple bike.
I can just imagine how fun that would be on rural, country roads, looking for new fly fishing places.
I think a bike similar to that just might sell well. For younger riders, women (no offence) or just as a second/third bike to those looking for a simpler, fun bike.
Here's a couple of the pictures he posted.

In some ways the most fun I had on a bike was on my Yamaha AS1. I commuted 20 miles each way on it for a summer, rode it in the snow in the winter, I owned it for about ten years. I wish I’d kept it.

I always thought this would be a fun little bike!  The Yamaha SR400!

I would probably own one if they put an electric leg on it. Until then, this will have to do...

I am seriously considering one of these as my next "tiddler" for local putting around...

1.  Kawasaki Versys 300
2.  Suzuki Van Van 200

Something small like that anyway...Dealers / service / parts for both nearby me...

And how many of members here would howl about tis not a real Guzzi not made in italy etc etc. If you have a hunt around a few years ago there was a rumour they were going to move the factory out of Mandello and much hand wringing anxiety abound. Piaggio also has a couple of other companies like Aprilia, Gilera and Vespa which might be better served by such a model.

Question: Does Guzzi need a smaller bike?

My Answer:  No. (IMHO)

Why?:  Guzzi has problems above and beyond bringing out yet another bike.
