We had one last week in ATL. 2 cars pull over, 1 guy gets out starts starts shooting, other guy gets out & shoots him dead. No charges filed.
Get your conceal carry card and practice shooting, MadMax is here!!

I was just getting ready to post this (another) article when this topic came up:

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/crime/prosecutors-wont-charge-motorcyclist-who-fatally-shot-a-man-in-road-rage-incident-near-tacoma/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=Referral&utm_campaign=RSS_seattle-news

Basically it repeats and clarifies the intital reports.  Key things:

The prosecutor cannot find any evidence that the incident was NOT self defense.  (An odd way of reporting the conclusion in my opinion).

The car driver was upset with the biker's riding and deliberately boxed her into a "no escape" position.  "After exiting his vehicle, he "aggressively" approached her."

He had thrown her into the jersey barrier and had her on the ground.  She shot him once as he tried to get on top of her.

The local papers THAT ARE FOLLOWING UP all say basically the same thing.  It's interesting that the outlets that initially tried spinning the narrative to make the biker look like a thug are silent this morning.

hah! ' no lifeguard in the gene pool...' that's pretty funny.  gotta remember that one. yeah, the press can call it a "road rage shooting" but it looks more like self defense against a lunatic driver.

reminds me of that scene in steve martin's L.a. story where he and his ex are driving along on the freeway when shots are fired. martin says something like quick, get the gun! ....i hadn't realized that shooting season had started..." (its funnier if you see the film.)

I just left the PNW, the drivers there are some of the worst and poor tempered I have ever seen (and I grew up in NYC/PHILA/NJ area)  Bunch of uptight self righteous passive aggressive psychos for the most part.

Maybe a better plan that would keep you out of jail and give you a significantly better level of protection (although certainly more expensive) would be to drive a Tatra T815 like Furiousa's.

People wouldn't be cutting you off very much, that's for sure .... !

i owned an old '49 ford f350 stakebed truck for about 30 years. i regret selling it. that thing, with its compound low gear, would climb the side of a building. it was ugly as all s%!t but it was a workhorse.  i never got into any disagreements on the highways and biways because a) i wasn't looking for it and b) the truck looked like it was uninsured POS. nobody came near it. i was usually given a wide berth. there were no door windows so we couldn't lock it up. i took my, then, brother-in-law to the lumber store once and we had a nail gun kit with us. i told him that we shouldn't leave it in the truck. he smiled and said it would be fine. we tucked it under the seat...came back...and there it was. nobody bothered that funky old truck - either moving or parked.

i don't understand riding with a firearm. it seems to me that if you are on a bike you can evade damn near anybody on the freeway if you know they are coming for you. so, the choice seems to be evade or confront. carrying a gun means you are willing to confront. how did it get to the point where the two of them were on the ground scuffling? they had to stop their vehicles and agree to engage each other. well this just seems nuts to me. run away! the world is chockablock with crazies. why carry a gun on the off chance that you will get to use it. it just seems wrong-headed to me. yes, i absolutely know that others here will argue with me on this. i expect that. oh, before i go, one more thing, the accounts state that he slammed her head against the guard rail? in the video she is still wearing her helmet. so, her head did not hit the guard rail it was her helmet. she had time to take off her glove/s and unzip or unbutton the jacket pocket, find her gun, take the safety off, aim and shoot. something about this whole story just doesn't ring true to me. dunno wot exactly. ok, that's all.

I can easily see a situation on a jammed up freeway where you get blocked in and can't go anywhere even on a bike.   If someone TRIES to block you up in a traffic jam, and jumps out of their car and comes for you while you're scuffling with your feet (especially if you're a 130 pound girl on a 450 pound bike) trying to back up so you can get the bike turned around, there's no "evading" any of that.   Whipping frenziedly on your bike against traffic on a freeway to escape the Agents is "Matrix" stuff, not real life.   And screaming and trying to run away on foot from some maniac trying to hurt you is NOT a solution on a crowded freeway, either.

There were a dozen witnesses to this, and that's apparently exactly what happened.   Deep down inside, everyone (the prosecutor, the news, the cops) wants the Evil Biker With A Gun to go down; and they couldn't make it happen despite everything.   So it doesn't sound fishy to me ....

Some cagers get really hostile if they see a motorcyclist getting an advantage, I can't imagine the young lady was a threat if he stayed in his car.

I for one am glad she wasn't prosecuted.

I remember a survey on a different forum it seemed at the time every second guy was packing heat, I thought it was common.
