Be on the look out for a used Panigale for sale where the blurb reads; "Ducati Panigale for sale , slight smoke damage , easy fix" .

its not on fire - they just look like that when they're moving really fast.

Perfect example of "ran when parked ...."

The new Panigale V4 superbike is a marvel of modern engineering in performance motorcycling, putting out a claimed 214 hp and 91 lb-ft of torque and including the most advanced electronics system to be used on a production motorcycle to date. Former Editor Kevin Duke put it thusly in his review of the 2018 Ducati Panigale V4, “It’s packed with performance and technology that shames anything else in its price range, and the fact that its lovely Italian styling adds a certain panache is the cherry on top. It simply sets a new standard for sportbikes.”

All good....except...th is one burst into FLAMES when parked!!

I always find it strange when some younger rider trades his Ducati for a Harley or vice versa.

I don't think I want to ride with one of those guys.

This bike actually belongs to one of my ridding buddies in a group i ride with in Vancouver.

From what I understand is he literally was sitting in traffic while he smell burning rubber. Next thing you know, it’s on fire.

Was just talking to him 3 days before...he rode the bike everywhere during the sunny days of Vancouver BC for about 2 weeks before it happened.

He isn’t a tinker so everything on the bike, OEM or aftermarket, were done by the dealer.

Once Ducati heard about it, they sent it a brand new bike ASAP...don’t think it’s here yet.

I'm happy Ducati is replacing the bike for him...watching your brand-new bike burn down would be heart-breaking!

Hope this is an isolated incident...they are gorgeous bikes and a technological marvel... :thumb:

ya...well, the "speed and no question ask" part kind of gets me...but at the same time, I understand they did that so they don't loose faith with the customer...

this is kinda of s**t you seen on TV and movie...but real life, THAT is a different story...

Naturally, Ducati is looking to head off a potential public-relations imbroglio that would affect sales...I'm sure schools of lawyers are swimming around incidents like this, waiting to move in at the first sign of product-recall blood...

From my Duc forum

Quote
Quick update. Still no idea why bike caught fire @ stop light, but Ducati North America called the guy and pretty much told him his new bike is on the way. Woot!
Quote
My dealer just received news from Ducati's NA technical director that the bike which caught fire had many $$$thousands in significant modifications both structural and after-market parts. Assumed speculations about the cause may be premature at this time and possibly lead to erroneous conclusions.

I had a T3  that had been mildly 'breathed' on. Caught fire and burned till it was covered in sand.
Never stopped that motor, it was red hot. Happens to the best of 'em. Not a blemish on the marque per se but since Ducati has now offered to replace the bike and the new one is being delivered soon, it's possible they are covering all bases to prevent bad publicity.
Too bad Piaggio isn't so big hearted in many instances. But I spose Ducati is so big it can afford to be magnanimous, though from the other side if Piaggio  were generous perhaps their customer base would grow a whole lot more. Seems logical.
