duty on parts from Italy?

I want to replace the Bitubo shock carts in my SP front end (loved them, got >30k miles out of them), got a quote from Eurocorsa in Ontario for $349 US, and found a price at an Italian vendor for 183 Euro(incl shipping), which works out to $227 US. This could be a heckuva deal, but am assuming I might be liable for customs duty. I've shipped things internationally at work, and trying to find the Harmonized Codes etc. can be a royal PITA.
Anybody have any experience with this?

I know Herdan is a US importer, but my experience is that they don't answer the phone or return messages very often.
Thanks

I ordered some parts from Italy and had no problems and nothing was said about any customs duty.

There should should be no US import duty or other taxes for consumer $ level purchases from Europe. Your bigger issue may be getting the European vendor to drop local VAT, which is about 20% in most European countries including Italy. Normally this should not be a problem, but every once in a while you get caught... for example in Germany 20% VAT is applicable to personal vehicle parts, although nothing else, even when the vehicle parts are exported out of the EU.

I ordered a Matris fork kit from Carpimoto and it was a seamless no drama professional transaction with no duty fee's. I would not hesitate to order from them again.

I have had some issues with duty on both new an used parts from the UK. But only when they were shipped by ups. I've never had an issue when sent via the postal service. Be it from the UK, Germany or Italy.

I ordered parts from an Italian company with no duty.
One part was damaged and the company came through just fine and sent me a replacement with no additional charge.

They got a lot of Guzzi stuff.

I bought my rear rack from a company in Italy. There were no duties, but they would not drop the VAT tax and didn't explain why. That's the only thing I've bought from Italy. When I bought stuff from Germany, the UK and France there was no VAT, but I don't understand the difference.
