Wonder what kind of gearing you have to use to get 300 MPH at 230 RPM?

I think he's only going for the steam powered motorcycle record.
Says it has a 1:1 ratio

I wonder how much water and kerosene it uses in a run.

Here's a link to an earlier attempt.

Wonder what time frame is required to 'bring the kettle to a boil' before she's ready to fly?

I seem to remember the process being rather lengthy in the old steam-powered automobiles...

I'll bet it uses way more water than kerosene ... the other guy said he just dispensed with the condenser and let all the steam go out the pipe.    That sure makes things lighter and easier!

With that bodywork, he'd probably only need 25 HP to go 100 MPH ....

Not long I suspect

Reading the text it looks like its using a water tube boiler and one of the benefits of which is it can produce steam PDQ

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water-tube_boiler

Its probably a flash steam version - you could try making your own flash steam boiler

Kinda surprised they have stuck with a reciprocating engine. I suppose it would be a trade off between that and the planetary gear drive system to get a turbine down to a useable rpm.

77mph on the first day during shake down before a bad battery ended the fun.  The way I read the article the record is 87mph and the team has a goal of 120mph.

It seems like a very cool and fun project.  I wish them luck.

I'm guessing the choice of "power plant" might have to do with availability somewhat. The reciprocating engine they're using sounds like something that is fairly easy to source, a turbine of the appropriate size may not be?
