NGC, May 2018 issue of Rider Magazine
« on: April 02, 2018, 10:13:23 AM »
Gotta crow a bit....on page 63 there is a full page ad for motorcycle tourism in Pocahontas County, WV.  The photo is of a group of sport riders (mostly Ducati Multistrada) and the lead rider is....ME!  I have been going to Pocahontas County for the past 10 years and always marveled at the great riding and wonderful hospitality found in Marlinton.  Some years I take a Guzzi, this time I was on the Multi.  The county promotes motorcycle tourism and wanted to build up an ad campaign showing something other than the normal HD themed stuff.  Our group agreed to be the subject for the photo shoot.

Nice!  We try to get up there every few years. We like to stay in Summersville. Love cutting across to Marlinton via Richland, etc..

Have to check out Rider to see the pic.

The hills of W Va ... It's as good as it gets!  We typically motel it in the Durbin/Bartow area, and do a couple of day loops.  From 2010 ride.

Better check before the next ride ... I think the only motel anywhere near Durbin went T-U a few years back .... Next stop Elkins, or back to Monterey ... !

Lannis, I'm guessing you've ridden those roads on your way to the BSA Rally in Ohio.

Bob

EDIT:  We stayed at this one an a few of our rides into the hills of W Va.  Up for sale now.

I suppose one could always stay at the lodge at Snowshoe, or make that nice ride from Bartow into Elkins.

I do .... I'm through there a couple times a year on either the BSA or the Norton.   Gotten to know it pretty well.   Sometimes VA39 and US219 to US250, sometimes VA39 and VA92 N, sometimes US250 all the way from Afton VA.

I generally stay in Elkins.   The "Econolodge" on US33 just east of US250 was my go-to motel for many years, then it became the "Elkins Economy Inn", which is motel-speak for "The place got too scruffy to be able to meet the Econolodge franchise standards, so the USA cheap-motel cartel bought it and will run it with no improvements until it won't even meet WV Health Dept. standards and then scrap it".

I stay in the Super 8 now on my way up to Ohio ....

:1: I believe you, Peter, may have been the person who initially referred me to OCI.  Nelson is like your own person motorcycle tour guide.  Just fantastic.
