Need quick response please!
« on: April 11, 2018, 10:04:44 AM »
I’m getting my throttled body’s balanced. My mechanic discovered in the process that the vacuum lines are not connected to anything and are open to just sucking air. Mechanic says this is a no no due to sucking dirt into system. The two lines comes to a Y and the single line is open. Is this vacuum line suppose to be hooked to something.

I THINK those lines were connected to the EVAP system on some models.

I put rubber plugs over them on my Jackal.

What model of Guzzi is this?

If it had a pollution control canister removed this might be a typical resulting configuration. It seems like mine (a Griso) has this setup now, after the operation.

Those are what you hook up to balance equipment, gauges or sticks. When done cap or run a line from one to the other.

I read somewhere that if you don't have the evap can, just run a new vacuum line from the right manifold to the left manifold, and it may help balance the TB's. EDIT...Once you have balanced the TB's properly, the crossover hose may help keep them balanced.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. Yes at some time the PO must have removed the evac and just never bothered to plug the hose or the two fittings. Its great to have a mechanic that notices these things and fixs them. I just hope this find didnt effect the mapping we just completely.

Either do as Steve says or remove the small spigots from the manifolds and plug them with short 6mm screws after balancing is complete. In markets without the charcoal canister the manifolds are just plugged in the traditional way.

Leaving it open to air is unlikely to have caused damage in the short term as the amount of air and therefore dirt drawn in is very small but you will probably notice that it will be smoother at idle and will backfire less on the over-run than it did before.

Cap it off.   :1: or run a screw into the hose.

Spot on Pete, thanks and fixed. The TB balance was perfect and needed no adjustments but a least my mechanic recognized an issue and it got fixed. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Not that I didn’t trust a Honda mechanic or anything, I just trusted you guys more;)
