I suspect there's a bunch of old time CB riders that truly enjoy the CB1100.

I started biking on twins, though I rode and owned a bunch of BMW "flying brick" K bikes for lots of miles.  However, the Beemers were rough enough that they had some sort of unique character. I'm not finding that with the CB.  It's a personal thing, I believe.

Regardless, she'll probably go up for sale in the next few weeks, and I'll take a $$ hit of sorts (who doesn't with bikes?)  I bought the 2014 CB as a new leftover in Apr of 2017 for $6999.00.  There's now a new bunch of them on the market .... I think Honda releases them from the warehouse when they think the time is right.

So, since there's a load of the 2014's on dealer's floors for $6999.00, I'll have to cut my price a bunch.

Not bitching ..... I've been here before with a bike that just doesn't work for me.

I think some of the funds from the sale will go to help bring the old R100GS back to a state of really good health, and the 1200 Sport will probably have a few $$ thrown her way, too.  Both these bikes work for me, and make me feel good when riding them, though they're different as day and night.

I like retro bikes.  The CB1100 has very nice build quality and looks like a motorcycle should look.  I never considered buying one though.  I went for a test ride when they came out and it just didn't excite me.  As far as retro machines go, I thought the ZRX11 and 1200's were great.  I owned one for almost ten years and loved it.

This may sound weird but the only bike coming out this year that I have any interest in is the Honda CB300R.  It's a normal looking motorcycle that wasn't designed by a deranged origami fetishist(unlike most modern naked bikes) and it has an honest-to-god round headlight....like motorcycles are supposed to have.  It has 30hp at the rear wheel but it only weighs 315lbs full of gas and ready to ride.  That's 50lbs less than a KTM 390 Duke.

To be honest, I have just as much fun on my daughter's CT90 as I do my California Touring.  Bombing around the neighborhood and tiddling down goat paths is every bit as much fun as banking the Touring through sweepers at 80mph.  There's all sorts of joy to be had on motorcycles.  I hope your next bike is as much fun as your 1200 Sport but in a completely different way.

Maybe a new, left-over V7III Stone is more your liking?
I'm getting one from Kustom Workz in Buffalo for about $5,800 OTD.    Was an eBay sale, buyer changed his mind after putting $1k deposit down.    Then, he posted it on ADVRider, KevM alerted me of it, and, now I just need to get it. home.
They have 2 more available, both matte yellow.   The one I'm getting is matte blue.   I hate matte paint, so, it's likely going to get repainted.   I have an extra matte-black V7I tank, if it fits, I'll use it, and keep the blue one original and maybe sell it.

Anyway, they have 'em listed at $6,699, but, are likely willing to deal if they let this one go for $5,500 + fees.    Watch eBay, maybe they'll list 'em again.   Started bid was $5k.   A green one went for that.

Disclaimer -- they did neglect to mention the fees on the eBay listing, but, it's still a smoking deal, IMHO.

If you're looking to spend even less, my beautiful black & orange V7 Special will be going up for sale after I get the new one home, and setup with luggage, etc.

The R 100 GS is ( IMHO ) the best total bike ever. it is a perfect do it all , touring , off roading , in town, two up, curvy road , slab etc... reliable as a rock and very simple to maintain .

I just finished mine and i am so happy with it.

My '90 paralever R100GS just turned 100,000 miles and won't be sold in the forseeable future. The best, most enjoyable mule ever made.  Mainly as a result of history and luck, not BMW planning.

It'll be a good place to put the money.

I’ve had two four cylinder bikes; an ‘81 CB-750F and a GS-550 Katana. Both enjoyed a great deal of popularity, but neither did much for me. They were very competent, but lacked the emotional connection that I found in my Norton, my BMW, or my Vintage.

Sorry it's not working out for you, Bob, but you gotta do what you gotta do . . .

OTOH, the 2017 CB1100 I bought in January is maybe the most pleasant bike I've ever ridden. Very different in its creamy perfection from my old K bikes and my new Harleys. Just plain easy!

I can see how your R100GS is a keeper

I know ..... my 2v 1200 Sport doesn't have anywhere the sheer grunt of my sadly departed Griso 8vSE, but for me, it has that certain undefinable something that I enjoy.   Think I'll avoid the 'dark side,' Pete.
