removing carbon
« on: June 08, 2018, 12:09:33 PM »
Some time ago I came across a way to remove or soften hard carbon in cyl. heads and valves.  It worked, but I don't remember where I got the information.  At the same time I was using Milkstone remover to remove rust from some parts, I may have tried it on the heads.  Does anyone know if Milkstone remover also softens carbon deposits?

I don't believe Milkstone does anything to carbon . Warm (180F) Simple Green left to soak will soften carbon , just buy the straight stuff and dilute it 1:1 .

I have used aircraft paint remover with good results. A second application may be necessary for more stubborn spots. I then rinse real well with water if possible.

A real hot carb cleaner does, make sure it causes your eyes to water and nose will run, then it's good stuff.

This^^^^.

I use a flux brush a gel type ARP. Dab it on fairly heavy then aver few minutes use the flux brush to scrub the parts. IN no time at all you'll have a gooey mess of carbon gel that can be wiped away.

Use rubber gloves, safety glasses and in a well ventilated area.
