Delorto PHF 36 float pin question
« on: June 09, 2018, 03:48:12 PM »
So here it is the issue. The grooved pivot pin, that holds the float in place on my PHF36 carb( left side) has loose pined out of the slot in the carb body. This has happened a couple of times. I just ordered a new pin from one of our better suppliers. Question, is there some way of getting this to stay in place?
In the past, I just lightly tap the end of the pin, ( grooved side) into slot in the carb body, until it "seats ".  The grooved end of the pin goes in last.

You could try some green bearing retainer and let it dry. Should stay in place w/you put the bowl on though, I thought.

So, once the pin is in place, it should not come out, due to the clearance with the bowl?
So if I am understanding correctly, the pin does not need to be " secured " in the slot, as long as it is assembled, holding the float, before the bowl goes on, right.

I was having the same thing w/pin then line up bowl and it appeared that way to me. This was 20 yrs ago so I may have it wrong too. Easy to check, I have a few pair, would have to dig them out. Haven't looked at them in 10yrs after the crash w/I drained em.

This pin will not come out once the float bowl is fitted; the protruding grooved end should almost touch the bowl to prevent it moving.
Surprised yours has come out. Put it in place minus the float bowl and see how far the plain end enters its locating hole. Maybe it's not quite long enough for some reason.
Easy to see on this photo (which was taken prior to strip down and deep clean during my rebuild).

Steve, Stevex,
Thanks. I think I had a brain fart, and forgot how bowl keeps the pin in place. I think that the pin had not come out while the bowl was in place, but popped out as soon as I pulled the bowl. I just thought that it was out, before the bowl came off.
This all started because the left cylinder is not firing. Checked for spark, OK. All fuel lines clean, pet cock is flowing fuel to the carb. This one has the pod filters. Bike was running fine last fall.
