7III Gas Tank Sticker Removal
«

Normally I soak a sponge in hot water and let it rest on the offending sticker for a five minutes and then the paper portion can be peeled away. The remaining residue is carefully removed with rubbing alcohol, contact cleaner or acetone depending on what is handy.
So far the wet sponge technique has gotten me almost nowhere. I wonder if the matte finish makes it tougher and if anyone here has a technique that won't damage the gas tank. I was starting to get impatient and figured I post here then grab lunch and try again.
Raining so no first ride report for now.

Tank almost empty and a heat gun (low) or hair dryer (high) to warm the sticker and metal to remove - peel off.
Orange oil (De-Solv-It!) on any leftover “sticky” adhesive left on tank for a few minutes to soften adhesive and then lightly rub off with soft cloth or micro fiber cloth.

Forgot about the simple hair dryer technique. That worked well but it still took forever on the tank. The handlebar one was a five minute affair.

I had a similar difficult time removing my tank decals until I removed enough fuel to only be heating the bare tank metal under the decal. With any fuel remaining in the tank decal area, the tank stayed too cold to effectively loosen the decal.
Even with the fuel removed it, was a tedious job.

I removed all the annoying stickers from my CalVin and had to use all three methods, heat, chemicals and intense scraping with finger nails and a plastic scraper. There is no easy way as it took both my son and I around to hours to remember 3 large stickers. Use caution all the way as damage can be done to the paint. Good luck!

Park it in the sun for awhile.I kept a full tank so the hair dryer could warm the metal without the heat dissipating on the back side.Use a credit card with a sharp edge to scrape. On chrome areas also use WD-40 as it peels. It’s a slow meditative process.

WD-40. It is all I now use to remove offending stickers. Hair dryers and credit cards pale in comparison to WD-40 and fingernails (gently used).
