Queston about Norge Low Gel seat
« on: July 09, 2018, 09:31:48 PM »
Trying to think of anything that'll make me more comfortable with the bike (it's a beautiful runner:  awesome underway).  A shorter seat may help around town though I realize there are down sides.  A couple questions about the Norge lower Gel seat if anyone has some personal experience

How much do they actually lower the seat?  30 mm appear to be claimed one place and 40-50 mm claimed somewhere else.  But shape/width can affect actual outcomes.  And then there's marketing. ;)

I see AF1 Racing indicates it's for 2013 Norges and earlier.  Other sites don't make that distinction.  Did the seating change in 2014?

Any good seat maker can lower your OEM seat.

Rhodan,

I've got the standard seat and the low, gel seat. I used the low seat for a year or so; easier on the backside than the stock seat and also gets me flat-footed at stops. However, on long trips I noticed that the seat made my legs feel too cramped. Lately I have had the stock seat back on; knees feel better. I have had a 2009 and now have a 2007 Norge, but have been told that the seats will fit on the newer generation Norges. BTW, I'm 5'7".

I had one on my 07. From memory, it was .8 inch. Noticeable, but not much, really.

Better idea. Keep in mind, gel can be VERY warm on hot days.

I have the opposite dilemma.  I'm wanting a taller seat than stock.
I want to take some bend out of my knees on our Breva 1100.
I believe the Breva and Norge seats are interchangeable.

I have the gel seat on the Norge and when it gets hot I use beads on the seat.

I have the gel on my 1200 Sport. It really is noticeably more comfortable on my butt on long days, but it is just enough lower that my knees complain on those longer days. Ergonomics are very much an individual situation, but the Breva\Norge seats are very inexpensive.

Any good seat maker can also raise a seat.  I raised my Norge 2 inches to get some leg room.

I know the gel can be scorching hot in the summer so that's a minus.  As people have also mentioned, a lower seat would torque the knees even more on a longer ride.  As my Scottish friend says:  swings and roundabouts.

If I decide to go down this path, I definitely want to keep the stock seat so need a 2nd seat to at least provide a pan to build on.  Thanks all for your replies, helpful as always.
