Guzzi model year question
« on: July 10, 2018, 05:21:59 PM »
This beauty is for sale on eBay

in the UK, the owner stating it is a 1999 model. I am guessing that is the year it was released from police service. Any idea what year it might be?
Might Guzzi have continued building the T5 for military/police after discontinuing it to the public? And will the VIN give any clue?

I had a 93-SPIII and I believe that this is basically the same bike. Good bike, gets hot behind that fairing in the winter time and it can feel cramped and near impossible to get your knee's behind the lower fairing. My wife hated the bike, because she wa speeches way up in the air and was constantly sliding into me on braking.

Thanks. So that would make this the last Guzzi model with carbs?

For the civilian market, I think the last with carbs was probably the Sport 1100 or maybe a small-block model (Nevada Club?) that the US never got. But for the police/military? It could be, but then again, a small-block police bike might have been the last.

There were no sport 1100 post 98.   The all new v11 sport debuted in 99 as I recall.

Looks like a very nice one. The full fairing version police version appears to be 1988-2001. The semi-fairing police version is 1985-1989?

Anyway, there are 4 police manuals out there and they vary in years. 850 T5 Polizia (1985-1989).pdf, 850 T5 Polizia (1988-1993).pdf, 850 T5 Polizia (1994-1994).pdf, 850 T5 Polizia (1995-2001).pdf - they likely have some changes, but they mostly look the same to me.

I know for sure that some of them had difference swingarms. The older ones had straight swingarms, the later ones had the curved ones with the indentation to accommodate a wider tires (same as Le Mans 1000 swingarm), then there was something about the civilian but I don't recall, 850 T5  Civile  (1985-1988).pdf. They were all medium length however.

These guys here restore them and bring police models back making them street legal. Maybe that is where that one came from, hard to tell. Anyway, these guys may be able to help you with details, but they are a little slow to respond and English is not their main language.
